About the department
The Business Ethics Compliance Office (BECO) develops and leads the implementation of Novo Nordisk’s global business ethics (BE) strategy and compliance programme, which focuses on the prevention of fraud, bribery, and off-label promotion. BECO is also responsible for Novo Nordisk’s global systems and processes related to tracking of payments to healthcare professionals, as well as compliance with new data protection regulations.

BECO consists of 16 dedicated employees in Denmark and is part of Business Assurance (BA) and further has a support team of nine people in our Global Service Center in India.

BA’s aspiration is to safeguard the Novo Nordisk values and license to operate by providing compliance and assurance services across the company. In addition to BECO, BA consists of Group Internal Audit, Facilitation and Organisational Audit. The global compliance organisation consists of approximately 150 employees across the world.

The position
The position as Senior Compliance Counsel is anchored in the Strategic Operations & Advice team in BECO. The team is responsible for our BE Code of Conduct (CoC) and corporate requirements, training of Novo Nordisk employees, competency development of the global compliance organisation, trending and risk management as well as general communication activities within BE. The team is also responsible for governance and reporting to senior management in relation to BE compliance.

As Senior Compliance Counsel, your key responsibility will be to ensure that our BE CoC and requirements are continuously up-to-date, which includes monitoring trends and developments in the external environment.

In this capacity, you will be the subject matter experts on BE compliance matters, provide principle advice to the organisation and review exemption requests. You will also be responsible for project management of strategic initiatives related to our BE requirements and support change management activities to line of business e.g. in relation to roll-out of new initiatives and changes in our requirements. In addition, you will support reporting to senior management and our governance board on BE compliance. Depending on your competences and fields of interests, you will get the opportunity to be involved in additional tasks and projects in close collaboration with your colleagues.

The position as Senior Compliance Counsel offers a unique opportunity to obtain valuable insights into Novo Nordisk’s global BE compliance programme and related processes as well as how our business operates.

Qualifications
You hold a relevant Master’s degree in Law (preferably admitted to the bar) and have a strong track record as in-house counsel in a global company, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry, or from a law firm.

You have several years of hands-on experience with legal and compliance matters and you understand the complex regulatory environment that a pharmaceutical company such as Novo Nordisk operates within. You have a strong BE mindset combined with a solid understanding of our business needs, which will allow you to provide sound advice and pragmatic solutions without compromising on BE.

You enjoy working in cross-functional teams with many stakeholders and you are experienced in navigating among different stakeholders across the organisation. You are proactive, result-oriented and have experience with project management and change management. You have excellent command of written and spoken English with the ability to communicate complex matters in a simple and compelling way.
