Global Business Development seeks two team members for Contracting

Do you want to be part of a dynamic and engaging team? Do you know how to manoeuvre in the intersection between science, business and law? We are looking for two dedicated Senior Contract Managers to be part of the Contacting team.

 

About the department

Contracting is part of Global Business Development, located at Novo Nordisk’s research site in Måløv, Denmark. The primary goal of Global Business Development, headed out of Boston, is to support the Novo Nordisk R&D pipeline by acquisitions, in-licensing and collaborations with external partners. The Contracting team is responsible for drafting and negotiation R&D agreements with external partners worldwide in support of Novo Nordisk’s R&D portfolio. You will be reporting to the Head of Contracting and will join a high performing team of four dedicated colleagues with similar responsibilities.

 

The position

In close collaboration with R&D colleagues in Denmark, USA, UK and China, you will have independent responsibility for drafting and negotiating R&D agreements with academia, biotech companies and other industry partners globally. This will require some work time flexibility. 

As a Senior Contract Manager your aim is to ensure appropriate business and legal terms for Novo Nordisk with main focus on intellectual property rights and knowledge transfer to Novo Nordisk. You will also support Novo Nordisk’s Talent and Elite Fellowship Programmes. R&D agreements comprise among others collaborative research agreements, technology licenses, Postdoc and PhD agreements, confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements and consultancy agreements. All contracts are drafted and negotiated in English. 

The position will require an ability to drive multiple projects and negotiations simultaneously – leading to finalising well-balanced agreements completed in a focussed and timely manner. Most negotiations are handled over emails, tele- and video conferences, and the position requires limited travel activity. 

You will also be involved with cross-functional assignments, legal advice, compliance issues, including training of colleagues in business ethics compliance matters, maintenance of contract templates and knowledge tools, presentations etc. The job will enable you to establish strong networks across the organisation and with external partners worldwide. Across your tasks, you will work closely together with colleagues, e.g. in Corporate Legal, Corporate Patents and Corporate Finance.

 

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in law, business law, science or other relevant field.
• 3-5 years (candidate 1) and 8+ years (candidate 2) of working experience from a similar job function with a law firm, life science industry or research institution.
• Solid IPR knowledge and contracting experience with collaborations between the pharmaceutical industry and academia as well as an understanding of the underlying legal aspects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and relation building skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate complicated issues in a clear and concise manner, preferably with good power point skills.
• A certain level of scientific insight and good business understanding.
• Experience with Health Care Professional (HCP) and Health Care Organisation (HCO) interaction, regulation and business ethics matters related to the pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience with GDPR and/or human biosamples in research collaborations.
• Knowledge of contract negotiations related to Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and other Public Private Partnership initiatives will be considered a benefit.
