Senior Research Scientist and Head of section for Wind Turbine Structures and Components

DTU Wind Energy works with developing and creating value from natural and technical science for the benefit of the society with focus on the wind energy sector. We are 240 employees in the department who are engaged in a broad range of projects within research, innovation, education and scientific advice all related to wind energy. Responsibilities and tasks You will be head of section for Wind Turbine Structures and Components (SAC). The section currently has 26 employees primarily researchers, Post Docs, PhD students, but also development engineers and administrative staff. The section (SAC) focuses on the design and prediction of structural response of wind turbines and their components such as offshore support structures and blades. The research deals with structural design and design loads, testing and optimization to ensure reliability and operational lifetime. The section is responsible for several MSc courses on analysis and design of composite structures as well as probabilistic design. The research is generally implemented in cooperation with industry. The research includes development of models, testing methods and efficient numerical optimization methods, quantification of offshore design conditions (wind, waves, soil) and validation with full-scale and lab-scale measurements. The section runs and develops full-scale blade and drive-train test facilities, including a large-scale structural test facility supported by the Villum Foundation to be finalized in 2016. The section operates for the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) the Secretariat for the Danish Wind Turbine Certification Scheme, which manages and develops the Danish approval scheme for wind turbines and advice DEA and other authorities on technical issues. Primary areas of responsibility - Daily management of the section including resource management (hours, staff) and budgetary control of section activities - Professional development, coordination and quality assurance of research and innovation activities as well as research applications, offers and plans from the section - Contribute to the development of educational activities and in the marketing of wind energy courses and activities towards new students - Ensuring communication and dissemination of section activities to professional and non-professional interest groups - Keeping up and widening contacts and collaboration with national and international partners from the wind industry and universities - Support and contribute to the public and private sector consultancy - Contribute to the strategic development of the department as a whole Qualifications We expect that you have: - Experience with management of research teams and other groups of employees - Several years of professional experience within the research fields of the section - A PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Senior Researcher or Associate Professor. - A strong professional and international network and research experience at an international level, a least at the level of a Senior Researcher or Associate Professor - Experience with project management, fund raising and organization - Initiative and a motivating energy and good communication skills - Interest in working in an environment with many nationalities and professional areas - Proficiency in English and Danish or willingness to learn Danish We appreciate if you have experience with - Industrial research and innovation - International research projects - Promotion and utilization of research results - Experience with teaching and PhD-supervision at a university level Assessment In the assessment of the candidate consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •the ability to pro
