Senior Research Scientist in Cell Factory Modeling and Design

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) is seeking a highly motivated senior research scientist in biochemical network modeling and synthetic biology design. The Center conducts research on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology of microbial and mammalian cell factories for chemical and therapeutic protein production. Successful candidates will lead a research group focusing on developing and applying methods and software tools for cell factory modeling and design. The group will be associated with the iLoop Translational Unit at DTU Biosustain and will have access to omics and physiological data generated within the iLoop in production and platform strain development projects. Responsibilities and tasks •Management of a research group with MSc/PhD students, postdocs and scientific software developers •Coordination of development of open source cell factory design tools including cameo (http://cameo.bio/) and driven (https://github.com/biosustain/driven) •Participation in management and coordination of international research projects in modeling and cell factory design area •Participation in planning and execution of translational research projects within the iLoop Unit •Dissemination of research results through publications and presentations •Participation in fund raising activities •Collaboration with other groups at the CFB in projects where advanced modeling capabilities are needed Qualifications •Candidate should hold a PhD degree in bioengineering, bioinformatics, computer science, biology or similar field •The applicant should have significant previous experience in development and application of modeling methods for biochemical networks focusing on metabolism •The applicant should have experience in supervising students and postdocs •The applicant needs to have significant experience in scientific software development in multiple programming languages such as Python and Mathamatica •The applicant should be familiar with standard software engineering practices such as version control, testing, documentation, and have some exposure to the design of large-scale software architectures •Solid knowledge of eukaryotic and/or prokaryotic metabolism and its regulation is preferred •Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to communicate efficiently to team members with different backgrounds is essential •Good communication skills in English are required Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation We offer DTU offers an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
