Senior Research Scientist in CHO Cell Line Engineering and Design

A senior research scientist position is available at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at DTU. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate will support CHO cell line engineering programs at the center, using state-of-the-art genome editing tools, systems biology data, high-throughput cloning and screening systems for improved acceleration and predictability of CHO cell factory Engineering. The candidate is expected to act as Co-Principal Investigator for the CHO Cell Line Engineering Section (CCLE) and manage the section’s daily research operations supervised by the Scientific Director. The group will collaborate closely with the other CHO engineering programs at the Center as well as other international research groups within CHO cell research. The research group will work on basic research with a strong drive towards application and improvement of the translational efforts at the Center. Further tasks: •Design and execute genome editing tools for engineering CHO cells for a given application together with the group members •Ensure characterization, design and industry-relevant applications of new CHO cell factories •Implementation of high throughput cloning and screening systems for generation and characterization of engineered cell lines and identification of novel gene targets •Generate and exploit IPR (novelty search, writing of patent applications, tech transfer) •Team building and competence development •Supervision of PhD students and post docs •Expand section operations through fundraising via national and international grants and industrial collaborations •Facilitate collaborations and synergies between the CCLE section, the CORE and other scientific sections at DTU Biosustain Qualifications •PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or related discipline •Several years of experience with optimization of CHO cell factories •Research group leader experience •Strong teamwork skills •Demonstrated command of state of the art genome editing, cell cultivations, bioprocessing, glycosylation, high throughput cloning, cell sorting and screening, characterization of engineered cell lines, omics data sampling and analysis especially in relation to mammalian cell research •Experience with innovation activities in a university environment •Experience with industrial and international collaborations Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •ability to promote and utilize research results •all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation Furthermore, consideration will be given to: •management experience and leadership skills •track record for successful grant applications •commercialization of research results in terms of patents and visions within bioengineering research and the tech transfer area •experience with oral presentations at international conferences We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on research, and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
