Senior Research Scientist in Nanoplasmonics, SERS and LSPR-based Molecular Sensing

DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines as well as applications. The Nanoprobes group is a large and highly multi-cultural group, with different research branches focusing on biosensing, drug delivery and environmental monitoring. Responsibilities and tasks The Nanoprobes group at DTU Nanotech wishes to employ a senior scientist in a highly interdisciplinary project focusing on fundamental aspects of nanoplasmonics as well as applying nanostructured substrates for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) based molecular sensing. The main tasks will be to explore and develop new nanoplasmonic-based measuring technologies and configurations with a strong focus on using the group’s developed devices, including nanopillar substrates. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with different research groups and, within the framework of the recently granted Center of Excellence - IDUN. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the nanoplasmonics and nanostructured substrate activities in the Nanoprobes group, interacting with several members working in different disciplines, such as optics, biochemistry, biology, microfluidics, pharmacology and polymer science. The job involves co-supervision of PhD and master students as well writing of research grant proposals. Qualifications The ideal candidate holds a PhD in physics as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc and has several years of experience in theoretical as well as experimental work within the area of nanoplasmonics. In particular, (i) experience in calculating optical properties of plasmonic nanostructures, (ii) hands-on experience in dealing with different nanofabrication methods to tailor optical properties of plasmonic nanostructures for various sensing applications, (iii) experience in developing surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) based sensors, and (iv) prior experience within plasmomechanics, i.e. designing and building optical measurement set-ups to study interaction between optical fields confined in nanoplasmonic structures and displacements in nanomechanical systems, is desired. A strong background in SERS and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) based sensing is a must. Experience in developing SERS applications based on nanopillar structures and nanomechanical sensors is required. Furthermore, experience in nanoimprint lithography and reactive ion etching processes are also considered valuable assets. We are looking for an independent researcher who works accurately and feels comfortable in a collaborative environment, and who is willing and qualified to take on a larger coordination role within our nanoplasmonics activities. Further qualifications •Experience in supervising PhD students within nanoplasmonics, nanofabrication techniques and SERS •Familiar with drug delivery systems based on micro- and nanostructures, e.g. drug characterization techniques using Raman spectroscopy •Experience in writing project proposals and a good track record of received funding •Innovative skills, ability to generate new ideas and to implement them in the experimental field Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of internal and external cooperation For the specific position consideration will also be given to: •Candidates with experience in supervising multidisciplinary research projects related to SERS and nanoplasm
