The Cleaner Energy Development (CED) Group of the UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP), a division of DTU's Department of Management Engineering, invites applicants for the position of senior researcher in energy technology and policy in developing countries. UNEP DTU Partnership (formerly UNEP Risø Centre (URC)) is a leading international research and advisory institution on energy, climate and sustainable development. As a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Collaborating Centre, UNEP DTU Partnership is an active participant in both the planning and implementation of UNEP’s Climate Change Strategy and Energy Programme. Through in-depth research, policy analysis, and capacity building activities, the Partnership assists developing countries in a transition towards more low carbon development paths, and supports integration of climate-resilience in national development. Responsibilities and tasks As a senior researcher, the successful applicant will occupy a key role within the CED group and will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of working independence to conceptualise, plan, budget and conduct academic and project-based research and analysis. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to: •Designing and conducting research that contributes to UDP’s strategic work plan in the area of cleaner energy development and climate policy •Coordinating UNFCCC-mandated Technology Needs Assessments in developing countries, providing methodological support and feedback on country deliverables •Coordinating and/or contributing to other projects, including EU-funded consortia •Supervision of PhD research •Publishing and editing academic and peer reviewed articles Other activities The senior researcher will also perform administrative tasks related to organising meetings, workshops, conferences, project progress reporting, writing funding applications, etc. The role also includes management and coordination tasks in relation to country projects, research networks and other cooperation activities. Qualifications Applicants should have a PhD degree or equivalent in a social-science discipline, spanning aspects of political science, economics, human geography and philosophy as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc. A minimum of 7 years of post-doc work experienced is required. In addition, the assessment panel will select candidates on the basis of a strong publications record in the area of energy policy and natural resource management in developing countries. Applicants are also expected to have regularly acted as a peer reviewer for relevant academic journals and/or be on the editorial board of relevant journals. Language and other requirements The working language at UDP is English. Therefore, fluency in English is required, with a particular emphasis on strong writing skills. The applicant should also be fluent in French and/or Spanish. Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation During the assessment process, particular consideration will also be given to: •Originality of thought and the ability to generate new ideas •The ability to conduct critical analyses of complex political-economic problems, free from normative constraints •The ability to conduct high quality research that could feed into ongoing global analytical effort in energy policy; •The ability to communicate at differing levels and contexts, including the provision
