Senior Researcher in Microwave Remote Sensing Sea Ice and Ocean Applications (part time)

The Microwaves and Remote Sensing section of the National Space Institute (DTU Space) covers development and utilization of space- and airborne microwave radiometers and radars for demonstration of new concepts and for acquisition of data through campaigns, as well as development of advanced methods and new techniques for processing and utilization of data from such sensors.

The Microwaves and Remote Sensing section is internationally recognized in these areas and the research is carried out in close collaboration with partners from national and international academia and industry.

The research field for the senior research position includes development of advanced methods to derive geophysical variables from a combination of active and passive microwave data for sea ice and ocean applications.

Responsibilities and tasks

The applicant must have a strong background in microwave remote sensing for sea-ice and ocean applications. The work includes development of advanced methods to derive geophysical variables from a combination of active and passive microwave data. The position also holds responsibility for extending cooperation with external partners by actively pursuing national and international opportunities for joint projects and their funding. Most of the work will be conducted in research projects funded on a European level (ESA, EU) and in collaboration with numerous international partners.

The applicant is expected to contribute to a limited extent to the teaching in regular courses at MSc level in microwave remote sensing techniques and applications, as well as supervision of student projects including MSc thesis projects as well as PhD and PostDoc supervision.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc.

Applicants must possess and document strong qualifications in research demonstrated through publications and citations in international scientific journals, and through successful collaborations and projects within the field of microwave remote sensing for sea-ice and ocean applications.

Applicants must be ready to actively and constructively engage in collaborations with colleagues in our group, with other DTU groups and departments, and with external partners. Most of the work will be conducted in research projects funded on a European level (ESA, EU) and in collaboration with numerous international partners so solid experience in international collaboration and management of international projects is also required.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The position is part time and scheduled to 7.4 hours per week.
