Department of Biophysics Screening & Characterisation is seeking two talented senior research scientists to perform discovery research in the areas of diabetes and obesity. The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders and explore novel treatments for obesity and – longer term – microvascular complications of diabetes. Consisting of approximately 1500 highly qualified scientists, postdocs, and technicians, the Global Research Unit conducts its world-class research from sites based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Beijing, and Seattle. About our Department In Biophysics Screening & Characterisation, a group of 20 people (10 scientists and 10 technicians) are applying cutting-edge instrumentation and methods to characterise peptides and proteins in the earliest phases of research. Working closely together with the formulation and structure departments, we aim to unlock the solution properties of our lead drug compounds to ensure that they have the potential to reach the market in liquid formulation. In the department, you will be working with easy-going colleagues who love challenges and value team spirit. The Job Our efforts start at the earliest project phase where we screen for solubility, thermal stability, aggregation propensity, and formulation conditions. Based on this early work, we guide analogue selection and design. Later in the project, a smaller number of lead candidates are characterised in depth with respect to physical stability, self-association, and ligand binding properties. Anchored in the department, and working in project groups you will interact with scientists from different scientific specialities on a daily basis. Qualifications You hold a PhD degree in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry or a related field preferably with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. You have first-author publications in peer-reviewed publications where you demonstrate the use of biophysical methods for the characterisation of peptides and proteins in solution; for example scattering techniques, chromatography, calorimetry, analytical ultracentrifugation, circular dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopy. In one of the positions, some experience of NMR is desirable. Your formal qualifications are backed by strong analytical skills and you enjoy handling and visualising data. You are self-motivated and enjoy sharing results and ideas with your colleagues. High quality of documentation and data presentation should come naturally to you.
