SDU Mechatronics, part of the Mads Clausen Institute and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for a full-time position as assistant professor in mechanical engineering as of 1 April 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Mads Clausen Institute is located at SDU's campus in Sønderborg in the inspiring building of 'Alsion', which is a center for science and culture in the area of larger Sønderborg. The university has close bonds to the industrial environment of Sønderborg, the municipality and the region of Southern Denmark. Numerosos projects within SDU Mechatronics are conducted in close cooperation with enterprises in the regional area and beyond.

At SDU Mechatronics research, education and innovation in the field of mechatronics is performed by experts from different scientific subtopics, such as embedded systems, mechanical engineering, signal processing and control.

We are looking for an assistant professor with strong experimental or theoretical background in mechanical engineering for design, modelling and building of complex mechatronic systems. Special emphasis is among others put on investigation of fatigue and vibrational properties of mechanical systems as well as various joining methods.

Main tasks

• Teaching of mechanical systems (CAD, standard components, production technology, fatigue, joining and vibrational analysis, FEM/FDM)
• Supervision of student projects and theses within the engineering programmes in mechatronics at both bachelor and master levels
• Active involvement in research efforts including funding efforts

Requirements and qualifications

• PhD degree in mechanical engineering or similar
• Documented experience with research dissemination in international scientific  journals and conferences
• Experience with writing research applications
• Good communication skills in English
• Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player with researchers from different disciplines

The following qualifications are preferred

• Expertise in mathematical modelling of mechanical components and systems
• Expertise in experimental development of mechatronic systems (including, e.g., integration of sensors and IO boards)
• Experience in teaching of courses and projects in mechanics (specifically mechanical components, joining methods and fatigue) and mechatronics
• Ability to develop course curricula

Requirements for the position
Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty. Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel. As part of the overall assessment of the applicant's qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.

Conditions of employment
Employment as assistant professor is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
