Student Assistant to Group Risk Infrastructure and Data, Copenhagen

Nordea is currently undertaking a large transformation in the Risk domain. We are thus looking for a student assistant to be part of the journey and help us build new risk infrastructure and ensure high data quality. This is a unique opportunity for you to learn about all aspects of the risk value chain; from model development and IT implementation, to how end users are using the infrastructure to perform controls and reporting.   

In Group Risk Infrastructure and Data (GRID) we develop Nordea’s market risk system which serves customers across the Nordea Group with market risk information and limit monitoring. GRID is part of Group Risk Management and Control (GRMC), which independently controls and monitors all aspects of risk including credit, market, liquidity and operational risk in Nordea. We are passionate about quality and integrity in our deliveries ensuring that Nordea achieves “best in class” risk management solutions.   

The offer 

You will be working in the space between risk models and infrastructure and we expect you to be able to work closely with a variety of stakeholders to deliver results. In your daily work you will collaborate closely with a variety of specialists ranging from risk managers, model developers and IT developers.  You will experience a steep learning curve within new technologies and within financial risk management.   

Market data is an important input to the internal risk models. As the models are sensitive to the input data quality it is paramount to have a sound control framework surrounding market data. An important part of the job is thus to assist in establishing state-of-the art of semi-automated processes and finding root causes of errors that potentially arise. The tasks will range from retrieving data from internal and external sources, ensuring data integrity and traceability to constructing and validating market data implied by models understanding the basics of the risk models.   

What you’ll be doing:  

• Time series management, e.g. by defining and implementing automated controls on time series data  
• Handling complicated market data objects like rate curves, volatility surfaces etc.  
• Perform the input quality controls  
• Understanding how a change in the market data can affect the risk models and capital numbers  
• Perform ad hoc tasks related to the implementation of risk models   

The role is based in Copenhagen.   

Who are you 

We are looking for a student assistant who has successfully completed bachelor studies and have 1-2 years left of the masters studies. Most importantly you come with an open mind-set and a willingness to learn.   

The ideal candidate is a team player and is either pursuing a theoretical background within Finance and has a keen interest in new technologies adopted by Nordea, or is pursuing a theoretical background within a technical area and has a keen interest in finance and risk management.   

You are outgoing, communicate effectively, and can build good relationships with colleagues with diverse competences, nationalities and job responsibilities.   

Your profile and background:  

• Enrolled on a masters degree within Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, or similar with at least one year left before graduation  
• Exposed to various programming languages during your work/studies (e.g. SQL, VBA, Python, Matlab, Java or similar)  
• Strong written and verbal skills in English  

We expect around 15-20 hours of work on a weekly basis with flexibility during exam periods.
