The Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy Section of DTU Fysik invites talented candidates who have obtained significant results during their M.Sc. studies and who have demonstrated excellence and potential in their field of study, to apply for two available PhD scholarships. The starting date must be in 2016. Responsibilities and tasks The subject of the PhD projects are within the field of neutral interaction with plasma in the edge of fusion machines and include the comparison of diagnostic data with numerical simulations. For the first of the two positions the experimental part is to be carried out at the KSTAR tokamak and at KAIST in Daejon, Korea and the successful candidate is expected to stay 6 months at KSTAR and KAIST. The PhD project further involves collaboration with the Hungarian fusion laboratory in Budapest and shorter visits are foreseen. The project will be co-supervised by Prof. Wonho Choe from KAIST. The second PhD position is within the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC). SDC promotes and strengthens collaboration between Danish and Chinese learning environments and increases mobility of students and researchers between Denmark and China. The PhD will be co-supervised by Prof. Guosheng Xu and the candidate shall work on the Chinese EAST fusion experiment in Hefei during 6 months. Qualifications Candidates should have a relevant master's degree within Physics or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree. Knowledge in plasma physics is preferable, but this is not a requirement. Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled at DTU Fysik PhD school.
