Two Postdocs in AI methods in Automation and Control

DTU Electrical Engineering seeks qualified and talented candidates for two vacant Postdoc positions in a project on automated translation of plant documentation to (Multilevel Flow Modelling) models.

The purpose of the project is to investigate how to do (semi-)automated transfer of plant and project documentation in the form of P&IDs to MFM functional models.

One postdoc should have a software/computer science background and work closely with the other postdoc who should have a process engineering background from mechanical or chemical engineering. 

Responsibilities and tasks 
Current research in Multilevel Flow Modelling (MFM) at DTU Electrical Engineering is developing MFM based reasoning algorithms and software tools for the analysis of causes and consequences of disturbances and for planning of counter action in industrial plants like oil and gas production system.

The project is part of a larger project on “Water Management” funded by Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Center (DHRTC). The overall purpose of the Water Management project is to apply advanced information processing and new water treatment technologies to improve operations of oil and gas production platforms in the North Sea. This includes the application of Big Data for analysis of plant information and synthesis of control actions. MFM will here play a central role as a methodology for representation of plant knowledge and for decision support of operators. MFM is the technology basis for AlarmTracker software developed by the project partner ELDOR technologies.

The team working in this area include 8 members at DTU Elektro and about the same number outside DTU, the additional two postdocs will work within the DTU Elektro team with strong interaction with existing partners.

Applicants to the positions should demonstrate competences within one or more of the areas: 

• General Automation or Process control
• Artificial Intelligence (rule based systems and knowledge representation)

Qualifications 
One candidate should hold a PhD in computer science or equivalent, and the other candidate should hold a PhD in mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent.

One candidate dealing with digitalization of plant documentation should preferably have knowledge about:

• Image recognition/computer vision
• Automated document analysis
• Semantic analysis for capturing topology
• Solid IT skills including early prototyping and being part of larger projects
• Knowledge of object and text recognition tools
• Knowledge based systems

One candidate dealing with process design and automation and plant documentation should preferably have knowledge about:

• Good understanding of industrial automation and processes, including documentation
• Understanding of process design, including safety studies like HAZOP
• Knowledge based systems

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The positions are for a period of 12 month starting 1 January 2019 or as soon as possible.
