SDU Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a 3-year PhD position in Odense starting from 1 October 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for three years and are based in Odense. SDU Mechanical Engineering is part of the Department of Technology and Innovation at the Faculty of Engineering at University of Southern Denmark.

Job abstractJV_description
The research project will focus on energy efficiency and flexibility of standard ventilation systems with integrated climate modules based on phase change materials (PCM). 

The PhD student will work on innovative solutions for the climate module with focus on optimized performance of energy efficiency including heat exchange between the air flow and the phase change material. The work involves experimental as well as numerical methods for analyses of the air flow in the ventilation system and for development of PCM heat transfer models for the climate module.

Knowledge within PCM materials, prior experience in experimental research work and obtained publication activity will be considered as an advantage. The candidate must have good English and good collaboration skills.

The PhD project is part of the EUDP project “NeGeV” and will therefore involve substantial collaborations with the other EUDP project partners.

The application must - in addition to standard items such as CV, full publication list, etc. (see below) - include a brief research plan of no more than 3 pages, indicating how the candidate expects to conduct the PhD study and research for the coming 3-year period. This should include motivation, state of art, research hypothesis, proposed methodology, and expected results.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a PhD fellow is a 3-year salaried position. The approval of the enrollment by the TEK PhD school is a condition for the employment. The enrollment and employment will cease without further notice at the end of the 3-year period. Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

An employed PhD fellow cannot have other paid work during the employment.

Requirements for the position
To be considered for the position it is required that the applicant meets the requirements for enrollment in the PhD school. Applications are invited from candidates with a master’s degree. If at the time of application, the applicant has not yet obtained a master's degree, a letter from the master thesis supervisor attesting to the eligibility of the applicant must be provided.

An assessment committee will assess all applications. Each applicant will receive his/her own assessment. An interview might be part of the assessment process.
