The Fiber Sensors & Supercontinuum Group at DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a candidate for a permanent position as Researcher in the field of polymer optical fiber sensors.

Responsibilities and tasks

This permanent position is within micro structured polymer optical fiber (mPOF) fabrication and fabrication of fiber-optical sensors based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) in mPOFs, such as humidity and strain sensors. The candidate is intended to head these activities within the Fiber Sensors & Supercontinuum Group. This means that there will be a strong focus on not only research within the field, but also on IP generation and attraction of funding to support the activities.

The candidate will also have the sole responsibility for the mPOF draw tower laboratory and the FBG fabrication facility at DTU Fotonik. The candidate is also expected to participate in the teaching within the technology of mPOF-based fiber-optical sensing efficiency.

The position will involve a strong collaboration with DTU Mekanik in terms of fabrication of polymers for the optical fiber drawing at DTU Fotonik.

The candidate is expected to further initiate collaboration with other relevant departments at DTU.

Qualifications Candidates should have
  • a PhD degree or equivalent
  • documented experience in the drawing of mPOFs made of at least three different polymers, such as PMMA, TOPAS, ZEONEX, and Polycarbonate
  • documented experience within fabrication of FBGs in mPOFs made of at least three different polymers
  • documented experience within fabrication of fiber-optical humidity and strain sensors based on FBGs
  • documented experience in generating intellectual property

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
