Marie Sklodowska-Curie ESR (Innovative Training Network - ITN)(MicroWine project): 15 PhD positions are offered across eight countries

Applications are now invited for 15 PhD positions (“Early Stage Researchers”) to be funded by the Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “MICROWINE-Microbial Metagenomics and the Modern Wine Industry”, a multidisciplinary study on Viticulture and Wine Microbiology within the Horizon2020 programme of the European Union. Each PhD position is fully funded for 3 years. The positions are based at 13 institutions, in 8 countries, and cover a wide range of disciplines including microbial metagenomics, wine genetics, bioinformatics, geology, chemistry and mathematical modeling. ESR’s must commence no later than 1st September 2015.

A diverse, complex, and poorly characterised community of microorganisms lies at the heart of the wine – an industry worth over €220 billion globally. These microorganisms play key roles at all stages of the viniculture and vinification processes. Given this importance, an improved understanding of the microbial community and its interplay will have significant effects on the wine industry. To exploit the power of 'Next Generation' DNA sequencing approaches for the benefit of the wine industry, we have initiated MICROWINE.

*Eligibility criteria of Initial Training Networks apply. Only applicants who comply to the following conditions will be considered: Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment. One general rule applies to the appointment of researchers in a network: At the time of selection by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.
