Medical technology has advanced a great deal in recent years, enabling assistive devices to help patients manage their health in new ways. Hearing aids are no exception. New technology in hearing aids, like wireless streaming, Bluetooth connectivity, and remote access to a hearing care professional, offer greater convenience to wearers while helping them hear. This new level of connectivity also requires new levels of security for our hearing aid users, which is why we are looking for you – our new Cyber Security System Architect.

More security for our hearing aids
Due to the increased digitalization of our hearing solutions as for example wireless streaming and hearing aids being connected to the internet, there is an increased need for cyber security. To furthermore support our security guidelines, we are now looking for a Cyber Security System Architect to support our Research & Development function at Oticon to make sure, that our devices keep complying with the specific cybersecurity standards. Through continuously improving our security architecture, this new function will lead the way in minimizing the risk of hacking and exploitation, which is posed to our hearing aid users.

Security Guard and System Architect
In your new role, you will act as Oticon’s Security Guard and will be responsible for the cyber security of the Hearing Systems, specifically for our hearing aids, apps, accessories and cloud. Being responsible for the cyber security means being responsible for the protection of the hearing system from destructive attacks and unwanted actions of unauthorized users.

As our Cyber Security System Architect you will play a key role in our Research & Development function, where you will gain a lot of influence and responsibility throughout the organisation. You will work within a lot of different technical fields and will have contact with many different stakeholders. 

You will be part of the System Engineering and Development Tools group, which is based in R&D and will be reporting directly to the group’s Senior Director. Your main stakeholders will be the Management in R&D, our platform architects, operations, IT and Sales & Marketing. You will be accountable for creating the security strategy on hearing device level, which is negotiated with the different stakeholders and approved by the R&D leadership team.

 

All in all, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire hearing system working together with the platform architects and system architects. The position does not include the IT system security or data privacy concerns within the company, as the focus of this position is on hearing device level.

Your tasks and responsibilities
You can look forward to a lot of flexibility, self-determination and responsibility. In this sense, you can look forward to the following tasks:

• Maintaining a good overview of security issues on the hearing system and creating proposals to handle possible threats
• Being accountable for an up-to-date cyber security strategy on which threats we should handle plus maintaining the implementation roadmap needed to live up to the security strategy
• Establishing and maintaining a security breach mitigation plan
• Leading a matrix-based network of architects in order to ensure the maintenance of the system architecture security view, including a clear ownership of each interface
• Making sure, that the design in existing and proposed architectures are secure and needed changes or enhancements are added to the security implementation roadmap
• Driving the continuous development of our security architecture and compliance, especially handling the balance between threat level, security and development cost
• Establishing a close cooperation with Quality in regards to regulatory obligations, e.g. FDA cyber security requirements
• Monitoring the security area from a technical perspective through attending security conferences or networks and being up-to-date with new technologies that may impact our company
• Acting as R&D one-point-of-entry with regards to cyber security towards IT, Operations and external partners
• Training of relevant stakeholders

Is it you?
We expect you to have a rather broad profile within Informatics or Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of work experience. You are structured and analytical from nature and possess great communication and facilitation skills. You are strong in leading teams and driving initiatives across multiple functions. You have the ability to drive a security agenda with a steady hand, creating the right sense of urgency instead of panic. You should furthermore have experience within the following areas:

• Basic cryptography skills and security experience, knowing latest state-of-art technologies
• Solid architect with a holistic and pragmatic approach
• Working with technology and product development preferably with experience from device development
• Security architecture on embedded systems with wireless connections to phones
• Security architecture of Phone Apps, connected to embedded devices and connected to cloud
• Stakeholder Management
