The group of Machine Learning and Statistical Signal Processing (SeG) and Embodied Systems for Robotics and Learning (ESRL) invites applications for a vacant postdoctoral position in embedded electronics with focus on the design of capsule shaped medical robots to be filled as soon as possible for a period of 1 years with the possibility of extension.

Job Description
The successful candidate will be mainly working on the design and development of a miniature (capsule shaped) medical robot for early colorectal cancer detection. The project deals with the design of non-invasive medical robots for screening of the gastrointestinal tract, such as wireless camera pills. The aim is to drive research forward in medical robots, and contribute to creating value
with our partners.

Furthermore, together with Odense University Hospital we develop novel applications for health related topics, ranging from image processing of in vivo sensory data, to modeling environmental impact on human health, and engineering solutions for monitoring and evaluating patients in their homes. The position will offer opportunity to work across research groups under the TeamPlay project in the Horizon 2020 program.

└SeG and ESRL
The Applied Statistical Signal Processing Group (└SeG) is embedded in the ESRL unit at the technical faculty of the University of Southern Denmark. Within ESRL, SeG covers fields such artificial learning, signal processing, and statistical inference. At SeG theoretical knowledge is applied to analyze and interpret data from human health, environmental, biological and engineering studies.

TeamPlay
The aim of the TeamPlay (Time, Energy and security Analysis for Multi/Many-core heterogeneous PLAtforms https: / teamplay-h2020.eu/) project is to develop new, formally-motivated techniques that will allow execution time, energy usage, security, and other important non-functional properties of parallel software to be treated effectively, enabling the developer to reason about both the functional and the non-functional properties of their software at the source code level.

The Applicant
We would like to appoint a talented and committed colleague, in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Embodied Electronics, who will contribute actively to the research environment in our group. We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in ECE with interests in designing and working on topics of miniature medical robots.

The applicant must have a PhD qualification in ECE and be able to demonstrate the following skills.
• Extensive knowledge in embedded electronics and design of miniature robots, preferably within medical application.
• A publication track record in relevant scientific journals and conference.
Proficiency in English is required.

Requirements for the position
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.

Applications will be assessed by an expert. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
 
An interview might be part of the assessment process.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a postdoc is temporary. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree.

The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.
