Owing to increased workload and development within our Marine and Geotechnical sector, we now seek to recruit a geotechnical seismic specialist to join our team of more than 50 Geotechnical Engineers at our head office in Lyngby.

COWI's group of Geotechnical Engineers around the world counts more than 200 staff supporting some of the worlds' largest and most challenging infrastructure projects.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS CREATE VALUE

You ideally hold a M.Sc. or Ph.D. Degree in Geotechnical Engineering and have more than 8 years of relevant post-graduation experience within geotechnical seismic engineering.

Furthermore, you recognise your profile in the following statements:

• You have extensive understanding of the fundamentals for a wide range of geotechnical systems for bridge, tunnel, offshore wind and waterfront structures.
• You have an advanced understanding of theoretical soil mechanics, dynamic laboratory testing, soil characterisation and liquefaction hazard assessment
• You possess strong technical skills, especially concerning seismic analysis, soil-structure interaction, seismic foundation design and ground improvement design
• You have proficiency with site response analysis using SHAKE, D-MOD, or DEEPSOIL
• You have demonstrable proficiency with dynamic numerical modelling using FLAC and / or PLAXIS.
• You have some relevant programming experience, e.g. in visual basic or matlab.

• You have experience with the common ground improvement methods and with the analyses required to determine the amount and extent of ground improvement needed for liquefaction mitigation or to ensure sufficient seismic slope stability

• You have experience with (performance based) ground improvement design, including preparation of drawings, definition of technical specifications and the related practical considerations to be made
• You preferably have experience from working with contractors
• You can maintain an overview in a complex multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment
• You are self-motivated and engaged and set high professional standards for yourself
• You have good communication skills and enjoy collaborating with others and sharing knowledge
• You take ownership, drive accountability and will act as a role model for the COWI values
• You possess a good command of English, both oral and written

BE PART OF AN INTERNATIONAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

Reporting to Head of Section for Geotechnical structures, Marine and Foundation Engineering, you will be responsible for geotechnical seismic engineering tasks and shall contribute to the technical development in this field. Furthermore you may act as technical discipline lead.

The role may require occasional international travel. Generally, these will be of short duration for meetings, site visits, attendance of conferences or similar.

Furthermore, your role includes:

• Providing technical leadership to geotechnical seismic tasks
• Assisting in the development of conceptual and detailed designs in consideration of project requirements, i.e. providing geotechnical design and construction recommendations
• Specifying and interpreting geotechnical site and laboratory tests, with focus on tests that are relevant for seismic design
• Performing advanced geotechnical and seismic analyses
• Preparing technical reports
• Providing input to drawings and specifications, e.g. with regard to ground improvement design
• Mentoring and developing junior staff
• Performing QA/QC tasks
• Staying current in the industry by attending and participating in technical conferences and seminars
• Attending client meetings
