The position is fulltime and available from March 1st 2019 for two years.

Background
A few years ago, our group made the exciting discovery that the malaria VAR2CSA protein binds with high affinity and specificity to tumor cells and tissue. Initially, this protein was of high interest due to its placental-binding capability, which causes placental malaria in women. However, the new discovery opened a world of opportunities to exploit the malaria VAR2SA protein for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. Recently, we have developed and optimized an assay for highly sensitive and efficient isolation of tumor cells from blood using recombinant VAR2CSA protein coupled to magnetic beads. Tumor cells found in blood are called circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and a subset of these is thought to cause metastatic spread of the primary tumor. Capturing CTCs have a great potential for providing unique insight into primary tumor evolution, help guiding personalized treatment, and predicting therapeutic response.

Job abstractJV_description
You will be co-responsible for validating our CTC capture method, which will include work with cell cultures, blood samples, flow cytometry, buffer production, cell purification using magnetic beads, and immunocytochemistry.

Centre for Medical Parasitology (CMP) is located in the Maersk tower at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. At CMP we have fully equipped and operational laboratories with state of the art high technology equipment. You will be joining the VAR2CSA team headed by Professor Ali Salanti and the CTC team, which is managed by post doc Mette Agerbæk. The group consists of more than 30 research scientists and the social working environment is positively influenced by the fact that many students and international researchers are attached to the research.

Your qualifications
We are looking for an ambitious, skilled, and highly motivated laboratory technician who can be part of our CTC team. Experience with cell culture work, handling of blood samples, flow cytometry and protein chemistry is preferred. The candidate should be able to work in a busy setting and be a strong team player. Good organizational and English communication skills are required.

Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the provisions of the collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Organization of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and under HK/Dansk Laborantforening, placed in salary group 4.
