We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our highly international research center - The Novo Nordisk Foundation for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark, and to become part of the Flux Optimization and BioAnalytics section headed by Prof. Douglas B. Kell.

The New Flux Optimisation and BioAnalytics section at DTU Biosustainhttps://http://www.biosustain.dtu.dk/research/research-groups/flux-optimisation-and-bioanalytics is working at the interface between computational biology, synthetic biology, metabolic engineering and bio-based products research, and aims to develop and implement innovative technologies to discover and improve bioprocesses.

Responsibilities and tasks

The successful candidate will focus on projects concerning the analysis, understanding, modelling and engineering of solute transporters (both uptake and efflux) pertinent to both biotechnological production and to human health. A key task will be the production of suitable databases. In addition, he/she will closely collaborate with other members, including bench scientists, as appropriate.

Specific tasks:

• Development and exploitation of molecular biology methods (KO and cloned-up versions) for varying transporter gene expression in organisms such as E. coli.
• Performance of transporter uptake experiments to generate data for core facility-based metabolomics analyses.
• Development and exploitation of experimental synbio methods (library construction, transformation analysis) and their application to transporter improvement
• Key role in the development and population of integrated transporter databases, covering several organisms (both prokaryotic and eukaryotic) and including both proteins and small molecules
• Involvement in acquisition, integration and analysis of data from various sources (literature, omics, phenotypic)

Other content of the position, e.g.:

• Interaction with whole-genome modellers
• Interaction with high-throughput analytics groups
• Cooperation with other institutes of DTU including Bio Engineering/Bio Informatics/Compute.

It is expected that the successful candidate will engage in collaborative efforts will become part of a network with other colleagues at DTU working in computational biology.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

Further qualifications:

• Have or be about to obtain a PhD, an excellent scientific track record with good publications in the relevant field.
• The methods of modern synthetic biology, as applied to at least one of

1. coli, S. cerevisiae

• Good knowledge of bioinformatics and preferably cheminformatics
• Documented experience to work in collaborative projects

Also desirable

• Candidates will be expected to have suitable programming experience
• Knowledge of modern web-technologies.
• Knowledge of general machine intelligence and analytics (optimisation, machine learning, clustering)
• Interest and experience in modern data visualization
• A knowledge of workflow systems (e.g. KNIME, Galaxy, Taverna)

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
