SDU Mechanical Engineering (SDU ME) invites applications for vacant positions as professor(s) in Mechanical Engineering. SDU ME is part of Department of Technology and Innovation at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark, located at the main campus in Odense.

SDU ME embraces a wide range of expertise within mechanical design and construction, structural dynamics and optimization, structural health monitoring, vibration analysis, robot mechanics, materials science and fluid mechanics. We offer educational programs at both bachelor and master levels. We are engaged in research and development projects in collaboration with research institutions as well as industry.

At SDU ME, we have decided to strengthen the research competences of the section and we are therefore looking for one or two candidates with strong competences in all areas of solid mechanics; however, preference will be given to applicants with expertise in the areas of structural dynamics and robot mechanics.

The primary task of the successful candidate will be to build up a research group in collaboration with other research groups at the unit and the faculty. We also expect the candidate to be able to compete for national and international research grants, and to establish new projects together with colleagues and industrial partners. In addition, the candidate shall contribute with competence and dedication to teaching of existing and new courses at bachelor and master level and supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students.

The candidate must have a PhD degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related field and certificate of academic teaching. Commensurate with the seniority of the position applied for, we also expect:

• An outstanding research and publication track record
• Experience within teaching and supervision at all academic levels
• Visions within the research and innovation area
• Research leadership and ability to define and manage research projects
• Extensive experience with industrial collaboration
  Participation in national and international academic networks of researchers
• A strong track record of attracting external research funding
• Team-working skills in addition to self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• Good communication skills

The position is open now and the start date is as soon as possible but negotiable and preferably not later than March 1, 2020.

Application, salary, and condition of employment etc.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree within the mentioned research area and will be expected to teach and instruct students who participate in bachelor and master courses.
Owing to the increasingly international focus of the degree programs, applicants must demonstrate ability to teach in English. The professorship is a permanent position and we expect non-speaking Danish candidates to learn to speak Danish within some years.
All non-Danish documents must be translated into English.
Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.
