The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency is dedicated to accelerating the uptake of energy efficiency at a global scale. The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency is the thematic hub for energy efficiency with the prime responsibility to support action towards the SEforALL energy efficiency target of doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency by 2030. The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency is institutionally part of the UNEP DTU Partnership – a UN Environment collaborating centre operating under a tripartite agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, UN Environment and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). UNEP DTU Partnership has over 25 years of leading international research and advisory work on climate, energy and sustainable development.

The Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency is now recruiting a Research Assistant to support project management and implementation on energy efficiency. The successful candidate will join the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency's international team of professionals in an interdisciplinary work environment that combines research, methodology development, capacity building and project implementation in developing countries.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with the Centre's management and the team of senior staff involved in research on energy efficiency related topics and in the energy efficiency implementation solutions at local level. Specific tasks will include: 

• Assistance with administrative tasks and technical support for energy efficiency implementation projects;
• Project technical and financial reporting;
• Webinar, workshops and conferences management and development;
• Logistic support for the development of the Cooling Efficiency Assessment within the Kigali Amendment of the Montreal Protocol – including but not limited to: logistics for face-to-face meeting and calls; Recruiting and communication with the reviewers; Contract preparation for external consultants for graphic designing, language proofreading, translation of executive summaries, as well as report layout.
• Support senior researchers on specific ongoing work at the Centre on analysis of good practice examples of energy efficiency action in select cities and applications, namely on energy efficient street lighting, municipal buildings and in water supply systems.

In addition, other day-to-day activities may include: 

• Contribution to other ongoing projects in the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency and UDP portfolio with reporting and administration;
• Assisting with the preparation of new proposals and fundraising;
• Preparing reports and communications material.

Qualifications 

• MSc degree or equivalent in geography, engineering, economics, environmental sciences, or other discipline related to energy or climate change.
• Up to 3 years of experience on energy efficiency or climate technologies and/or policies work;
• Experience in working on energy efficiency or climate mitigation issues associated with cooling technologies is a pre-requisite;
• Familiarity and relevant work experience related to energy efficiency management, technologies and best practices implemented at city or municipal level is an asset;
• Experience in planning and organising webinars, workshops and conferences on sustainable energy with an international audience is an asset;
• Experience with work with UN agencies and availability to travel is an advantage.

Languages
The working language at the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency is English so working and spoken fluency is needed. Knowledge of Danish would also be an advantage, since it is the working language of DTU.

Terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The Research Assistant contract is offered for a two-year term which cannot be extended.
