DTU Skylab is looking for two engineering students to develop a food computer to be used in Danish elementary schools.

DTU Skylab is a pulsating environment for entrepreneurship amongst students and has activities such as workshops for prototyping and coaching of student entrepreneurs.

We are looking for two students to work on the project 'Ha(c)k dit grønt' for one year.

The purpose of Ha(c)k is to enhance the knowledge of healthy food and eating habits amongst Danish pupils by developing, testing and evaluating a technological learning space that brings teaching in the journey from farm to fork into the classroom.

We are in need of students who can design, develop and produce a food computer, which can assist in achieving the goal of the project. You will be part of the whole process from drawing to reality of prototypes that are user friendly and robust.

Your responsibilities:
  • design an airtight box with grow light, cameras, pumps and sensors, which can accommodate plant growth.
  • make wiring diagrams and 3D-models of the prototypes
  • practical work, for example laser cutting and 3D printing
  • assembling and testing of prototypes

You will be part of a team consisting of three students who will be making the prototypes together.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for students with some of the following competences and experiences:
  • experience with CAD-værktøjer
  • embedded programmering
  • Arduino / and or Raspberry Pi
  • circuit design
  • PCB-design
  • Mechatronics
  • Mechanics
  • material science
  • experience with hobby engineering of a technical nature
  • practical skills within electronics
  • user oriented design
  • design-skills

We imagine you are studying mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or design and innovation and can work on the project for one year. You enjoy working in teams and know how to use your hands. You are an initiator, problem solver and good at finding creative solutions.

Salary and terms of employment

You will be employed as a student assistant according to the SUL Collective agreement. The position is for 15 hours per week for one year.
