As part of DTU Compute's strategic focus on AI driven digitalization research, the section for Dynamical Systems at DTU Compute invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in Decision-Making under Uncertainty with a focus on Applications in Integrated Energy Systems. The assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position.

The Dynamical Systems section conducts fundamental, advanced, strategic and applied research in the area of dynamical systems. This involves both deterministic and stochastic systems, discrete and continuous systems, deductive and inductive model building, forecasting and abstractJV_descriptions, as well as control and optimization.

We do research in both deterministic and stochastic systems within a range of applications. The main themes are energy, smart cities, medicine, and biology.

The focus of the position will be to conduct research and teaching in the field of decision-making under uncertainty with the main application in intelligent and integrated energy systems. The research exploits new optimisation methods to improve operations and decision-making within complex planning problems for energy systems, companies, markets, smart cities and smart societies.

To complement and/ or integrate these energy applications, related optimization methods in logistics' operations and scheduling problems will be explored as well.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will be responsible to lead research activities related to decision-making under uncertainty and optimization at the Dynamical Systems Section. Specific responsibilities and tasks will include the following:

• You will research new optimization approaches for various applications (mainly energy systems).
• You will develop advanced and innovative solution techniques for complex and/or real-time planning problems.
• You will engage in exploiting novel combinations and synergy effects with the other methodologies researched and used at the section, especially forecasting and control, in collaboration with your colleagues.
• You will engage in project management activities and funding applications related to your field of research.
• You will work in close collaboration with academic and industry partners.
• You will engage in and/or support continued education and innovation activities.
• You will be responsible for teaching activities related to decision-making under uncertainty and optimization methods.
• You will contribute to supervision of master and PhD students.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

The candidate should have a strong background in decision-making under uncertainty and optimization methods with experience in applications to energy systems.

More specifically, you should have the following qualifications:

• Experience with mathematical modelling (linear and mixed integer linear programming) and optimization under uncertainty (stochastic programming, robust optimization)
• Experience with decision-making under uncertainty in integrated energy systems
• Experience with solving large-scale optimization models
• Experience with teaching activities related to decision-making under uncertainty, optimization and heuristics
• Experience with project management and funding applications (H2020, Innovation Fund Denmark)
• Preferably experience with logistics and scheduling problems
• Preferably experience with statistics, forecasting and machine learning

In addition, you should:

• enjoy working with complex topics

• be self-motivated

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

An assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment.
