DynaMo Center, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen, wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor in transport biology of specialized metabolites from 1 November 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is limited to a maximum of 2 years and 5 months.

DynaMo is a Center of Excellence appointed by the Danish National Research Foundation. The center is anchored within plant biology and focuses on specialized metabolites, particularly the glucosinolates. The vacant Assistant Professorship’s research focus will be to transporter gene discovery and characterization.

The transport of phytochemicals across cellular borders is essential for plant fitness and survival. A major knowledge gap exists in the understanding of the transport of specialized metabolites that are key for interactions with other organisms. Using glucosinolates as model compounds our aim is to identify the glucosinolate transporter complement.

The assistant professor’s duties are research obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching incl. associated examination obligations within transport biology and plant-microbe interaction. To a limited extend this may also include performance of other duties.

Qualifications
The candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in natural or life science. The candidate should have demonstrated scientific productivity evidenced by research publications, be able to conduct independent and creative research, and show good interpersonal and communication skills.

The candidate should have qualifications within the following areas:

• Bioengineering of transport pathways, including gene discovery, biochemical characterization of transporter, characterization of transporters in heterologous organisms e.g. planta, yeast and oocytes
• Prior experience in transporter assays, mining of ‘omics databases
• Good communication skills in English, both oral and written
• Teaching experience and experience with supervision of BSc and MSc students
• An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions
• Enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence

Place of employment and work
DynaMo Center is hosted by Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences that is well equipped for the research undertaken in the center. This includes modern laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities within advanced bioimaging, nano-biotechnology, metabolite profiling, protein biochemistry, molecular genetics as well as plant growth facilities and climate chambers. English is the working language at the Center.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 430.569 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 73.627). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
