The Development Manager is a vacancy for a leadership position, where you should expect to be part of a journey in which you will be playing a key role. 
As a Development Manager, you will be accountable for building, managing and leading several high performing teams across a domain.

You will have a high degree of autonomy to drive best practice ways of working. We expect you to cascade autonomy to your people though servant leadership; building teams with a strong sense of ownership and empowerment. Taking responsibility is natural to you.

This exciting and challenging role will involve 
• Joint accountability with other lead roles within your development area for the sustainable evolution of the technical assets and the efficacy of the teams’ delivery and support capability. 
• Managing relationships with Domains, ITSOE, 3rd party vendors and other development teams. Plus establish roadmaps in an agile working environment. We work with high pace and have many things at our plate. 
• Working in a structured way is needed to be successful.

Key responsibilities

Creating effective teams:
• Build long standing end-to-end delivery teams.
• Recruitment and performance management of developers.
• Optimise resource demand management to maximise resource utilisation
• Effective collaboration with vendor partners to balance vendor expertise versus Maersk capability
• Onboarding and Management of Maersk and vendor team members. 
• Maximise the value delivered from your teams and driving agility metrics.
• Evolve best practice implementation with Lean/Agile ways of working and tooling. Participate in peer groups and engage with communities of practice
• Create aligned process and behaviours with both internal & vendor resources located in on-site/near-shore/offshore teams.
• Maintain sustainable teams; manage knowledge and capability (prevent key-man dependencies), manage around planned absence
• Ensure software and hardware needs are anticipated and met.
• Engage with partners across Domains at multiple levels and build a plan with shared commitments and balance the long term with short term impact.
• Determine needs, develop high-level requirements road maps and define go-to-technology strategies within the DB area. 

Technical leadership:
• Provide technical leadership across your teams; promoting, mentoring and monitoring the use of best practice engineering (TDD, BDD, Domain Driven Microservice Design, API first etc). 
• Report on code quality and implement software improvement initiatives. 
• Identify and own technical debt, communicate relevance to stakeholders and drive its removal. 
• Develop deep understanding of your product area and collaborate on creation and maintenance of the related technology roadmap
• In collaboration with Development Leads X Domians, design and deliver automation with a focus on efficiency, scalability, maintainability and operability

Delivery / support:
• Drive highest value through the teams by collaborating with product owners on technical options to deliver business benefit early and incrementally. 
• Provide thought leadership for your development area on deliverability and change transition, driving toward no-outage and low-risk releases.
• Build DevOps mindset, culture and working patterns
