Core Responsibilities
• Direct the team who create ground breaking digital play experiences.
• You are a hands-on director – you will enjoy architecting and developing new software components which add the capabilities needed to develop radically innovative play. These software components will primarily be targeted at mobile platforms using Unity C# development. This development will either be done by our internal digital play developers or external partners.
• Create a climate of collaboration where you role model how to work with LEGO designers and digital play developers – to create experiences that utilizes the software technologies to add the most value, test with children, learn and iterate with an open mind to improve the overall experience quality. Never be afraid to pivot if play testing proves a new direction would be better.
• Mentor external developers – help set up external companies and freelancers for successful prototype development and guide them to use our components and tools to their maximum potential. Tasks range from evaluating capabilities and negotiating deliverables, to mentorship and representing LEGO play values. Some project management may be required depending on the size and phase of the project.
• Work with our partners – to succeed, this role must collaborate with world class partners at the forefront of computer sciences. Work with our research partners to develop new technologies and convert the academic versions of the software to something that can be used in prototypes. Once the technology has been proven, assist our execution partners (internal & external) in implementing it in real products.

This role will focus on delivering solid software to be used in physical/digital experiences around the LEGO organization.
Do you have what it takes?
• A degree in Computer Science, Game Design or equivalent, a higher degree preferred.
• Team Leadership – a proven track record driving an internal and/or external software development team to achieve excellence. The ability to set a technical direction for other less experienced team members. This could be in functions such as Product Owner, Manager or Scrum Master.
• Deep C#, C++, Python, JAVA or Swift/Objective-C development skills.
• Experience in architecting and developing software - the ideal candidate will have experience with architecting and developing consumer facing software preferably running on mobile devices.
• Entrepreneurial mindset – the ideal candidate will have a track record of delivering innovative software solutions in a start-up environment. Alternatively, the candidate would have built successful innovative technology within existing organizations.
• Primary development platform experience with Unity and/or Unreal.
• Experience with developing backend/support systems (in C, C++, C# and/or Python).
• 5+ years experience in developing connected toys and/or video games and have deep knowledge of play mechanics, longevity systems, minute to minute gameplay and player control.
• Experience with Convolutional Neural Networks and/or other Artificial Intelligence platforms an advantage. This could be hands on experience with TensorFlow, Caffee, Pytorch and similar technologies.
• Scrum Product Owner and/or Scrum Master certifications is an advantage.
• Experience with computer vision and augmented/mixed reality also an advantage.
