About the department The department of Research Protein Purification is located in the R&D facility in Måløv. Our department is part of the function area Biotechnology, which resides in the united research facility of Novo Nordisk known as Global Research. We are responsible for designing, purifying and characterizing proteins (mostly recombinant) for testing as future biopharmaceutical drug candidates. We deliver purified proteins to in vitro and in vivo experiments in which medical hypothesis and proof-of-concept are tested. We work in close collaboration with key internal stakeholders such as molecular biologists, cultivation scientists, assay scientists and veterinary doctors. Presently, we are seven scientists, thirteen technicians, one PhD student and one intern in the department. The job You will be working with protein purification mostly in lab scale using Äkta Xpress and Explorer. A great part of the work will be to purify many variants of the same protein to screen for a lead molecule. This will be done using state-of-the-art high-throughput purification methods for ‘hard-to-produce’ recombinant proteins such as coagulation factors. An integral part of the work will be to conduct in-process analyses to ensure a high quality and high yield of the purification processes. The primary analyses include SDS-PAGE, HPLC and LC-MS. To begin with, you will get an introduction to the laboratory routines and workflows and later you will be working independently reporting to the scientist. Since we are a dynamic organisation with many research projects, there may be rapid transitions, even on a daily basis, in which new dirlooking for an intern who is passionate about protein science and purification and likes to work in a laboratory environment. You should have basic knowledge about protein chemistry and chromatography. However, we do not expect that you are an expert in the field and initially we will train you in the different disciplines and knowledge required. We expect that you are willing to learn applied protein chemistry, so you are able to work independently with careful attention to details. You will be working closely ections are pursued. Therefore it is important that you thrive in a busy environment and that you are able to juggle many tasks at the same time. Qualifications We are with the department members and we consider a good team spirit as important. We will appreciate if you have a positive and open mind-set, are enthusiastic and have a good sense of humour. Practicalities Qualification: Students in their first or second year of their master studies. Period: The internship position is a full-time position for 4-6 months.
