The present position is anchored at the DTU Mechanical Engineering, at the section of Manufacturing Engineering (MPP). MPP performs research and teaching in the field of manufacturing engineering. The research involves theoretical, numerical and experimental approaches. The main activity areas cover manufacturing processes, product and process quality control technologies and data analytics, as well as modelling approaches to all these subjects. Research and teaching are based on a multi-disciplinary use of process technology, materials science, thermodynamics as well as solid and fluid mechanics in the analysis and modelling of manufacturing processes.

The Additive Manufacturing group at the MPP section of DTU Mechanical Engineering has a vacant 3-year position as a postdoc in Computer Science for Additive Manufacturing (AM). The postdoc project aims through a larger research consortium to exploit new methods for geometry interpretation, job generation and machine control in an open hardware framework for vat photopolymerisation and powder-bed metal based Additive Manufacturing. Throughout the project you will be tasked with building up the digital ecosystem around existing research infrastructures for vat photopolymerisation and powder-bed fusion.

Responsibilities and tasks


The aim is to explore next generation methods for interpreting 3D input geometry, for intelligent job generation based on e.g. statistical or multiphysics simulation data, and for advanced machine control of the hardware systems. The code-base must be modular and easy to reconfigure for changing hardware platforms and thus you will also be specifying the cyberphysical interfaces of the AM platforms.

Tasks:

• Development of a control interface on a host computer
• Definition of communication protocols
• Embedded coding of microcontrollers
• Interfacing between host computer and microcontrollers
• Testing manufacturing strategies on vat photopolymerisation and powderbed metal systems
• Inline process monitoring
• Data driven control strategy implementation

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

The position requires you to have expert knowledge in Computer Science and in Additive Manufacturing, preferably with a PhD degree covering either or both fields.

You will be working in the bounds of academic research and corporate industrial implementation of Additive Manufacturing in an interdisciplinary team. You must by virtue hereof possess good collaboration and communication skills and be self driven. The following technical qualifications must be fulfilled.

• You must have a strong background in Computer Science and Additive Manufacturing processes
• You must be adept in code development and coding collaboration methodologies
• Have strong skills in cyber-physical systems and how to link materials and process between the physical and digital realms
• Have good knowledge in the field of Geometrical Metrology, Computer Vision based measurements, Quality Assurance and Characterization.
• Have good knowledge in statistical modelling.
• Have knowledge within Performance Metrics for Manufacturing and Engineering Statistic.

Salary and terms of employment


The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
