Do you want to work in the field of advanced materials and be involved in high profile research project for a new disruptive technology?

There is an available postdoc fellowship in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy), Technical Universityof Denmark (DTU) on a research project dealing with powering IoT nodes from ubiquitous heat sources by using nano-enabled micro-energy systems with a small footprint. Using concepts from the emerging Nanoionics and Iontronics disciplines, enhanced harvesting and storage devices will give rise to a radically new family of all-solid-state micro-energy sources able to eventually harvest and store energy at the same time. This project is funded by EU under the FETProactive programme towards structuring emerging research themes. We will work on thin film thermoelectric oxide materials integrated onto a sensor.

Research project


The aim of this project is to fabricate thin film thermoelectric materials using thin films techniques such as Pulsed Laser Deposition and/or sputtering. The research will include the development of novel n-type and/or p-type thin film based on oxide materials and investigating the electronic, thermal and thermoelectric properties of the thin films. The goal is to integrate highly effective thermoelectric generator by tuning its elemental composition and carrier density onto a MEMS based device. This is a highly collaborative project within the framework of EU under the FETProactive programme (HARVASTORE project). The successful applicant will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team, which has a focus in the development of sensor for the IoT.

The objective is to study the thermoelectric films to identify the microstructural and thermoelectric factors, which determine the optimization of these materials for the use in sensor.

Qualifications

Candidates should be highly motivated and have to hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), preferably in a physics, Chemistry, nanoscience, or a materials science-related discipline. In addition, the following qualifications are requested:

• Experience with thermometric materials
• Experience with thin films oxide technology
• Good communication skills in English
• Being able to work independently and in a team

Candidates with the following qualifications are preferred:

• Experience with functional metal oxides and their chemistry
• Experience in metal oxides thin films deposition
• Knowledge in solid state-physics, chemistry and thermoelectricity.
• Experience in fine structure characterization methods
• Proved writing and communication skills.

Salary and appointment terms


The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 3 years. The expected starting date is July 2019 but we are flexible and would be discussed directly with the successful candidate.
