Research Assistant in Building Practices in the Arctic

The Department of Civil Engineering (DTU Byg) invites applications for a research assistant (part-time) in the Section for Design and Processes.

DTU Civil Engineering is composed of six sections with the Section for Design and Processes focusing on construction of entire buildings considering all relevant functional requirements simultaneously. The goal is to provide quality of life including applicability, comfort, experience, sustainability and safety.

We seek an experienced researcher within the broad field of building design in the arctic regions. The open position is with workplace in Sisimiut.

The research task is to design building elements and detailed connections taking the arctic climate and building and energy codes into account.

Responsibilities and tasks 
Based on a sustainable and holistic building design approach, the candidate will contribute to an existing ongoing research project. The candidate shall:

• Develop basic concepts for buildings elements according to the energy and building code regulations in the Arctic region.
• Develop documentation e.g. specifications, building information models, and drawings for the concepts.
• Assist BEng. students at the Sisimiut campus with experience on construction methods in the Arctic regions.

The candidate is expected to operate in an interdisciplinary research team as well as actively collaborate and coordinate with other research groups. The position is based at DTU’s Campus in Sisimiut, however some travel activities to and from Lyngby Campus must also be expected.

Qualifications
The qualified applicant should have a masters degree in architecture or engineering with postgraduate and/or professional work specific to the Arctic region. Moreover, the following requirements should be met:

• Experience and expertise in architecture/engineering and building practices specific to the Arctic regions of the world, with at least five years’ experience working in building physics field within the Arctic Region.
• Experience and expertise in envelope/wall design for northern structures, both theoretically and in practice, with an emphasis on construction techniques specific to the circumpolar regions of the world.
• Understanding of the impact on energy code and building code regulations on construction costs in the Arctic Region.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
