Our Strain Development Department in Hørsholm is seeking a dynamic Research Technician (laborant or laboratorietekniker) who likes new challenges and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team.  

We are looking for a research technician for our Strain Development Department, in the Bacterial Physiology unit, Discovery function of R&D at Chr. Hansen A/S in our headquarters in Hørsholm, Denmark.
With our ambitions of 8-10% organic growth we are expanding our R&D capacity and our Strain Development activities. We are a department with extensive experience in microbial physiology, microbial and bacteriophage genetics, molecular biology and strain improvement. We aim at gaining in-depth understanding of the physiology of spore forming bacteria (particularly industrial Bacillus strains) for knowledge guided improvement of strains to be applied in new product development for our Plant Health business. The research technician will work closely together with scientists in a multidisciplinary team and will report to the Manager of our Strain Development department.  

 

Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities and tasks are: 

• Your main task is to perform experimental work focused on natural strain improvement of industrial Bacillus strains (and other Gram positives) using different microbiology, biochemical and molecular biology methods  
• You will perform experimental work to support development and utilization of genetic tools for Bacilli (and other Gram positives)
• You will be responsible for the documentation of your experimental data, communicate and discuss your results with the team  
• You will be involved in research projects aiming at strain improvement of industrial Bacillus strains (and other Gram positives), elucidation of molecular mechanisms, characterization of microbial phenotypes and using the generated knowledge as guidelines for further strain improvement

 

Personal profile

We expect for you to have the following background and experiences: 

• You have an education as Research Technician (laborant or laboratorietekniker; MSc with relevant experience)  
• You have experience and interest in microbiology, strain improvement, genetic engineering and molecular biology  
• You are open minded, show innovative thinking to solve technical challenges, are motivated, fast learner and enjoy learning new things  
• You show initiative and take responsibility for your tasks  
• You have good communication skills and are able to engage in a (multidisciplinary) team  
• You communicate in English both written and spoken

 

Your new team

The Bacterial Physiology unit aims at delivering top notch microbial leads to the Chr. Hansen value chain by applying a systems biology approach to generate the molecular and biochemical knowledge required to guide strain improvement strategies. The unit consists of three departments, Experimental Systems Biology, Computational Systems Biology and Strain Development and a total of 31 employees. The Strain Development department (9 members) develops improved microbial strains for commercial applications, phage-biology know-how and molecular tools for mechanistic studies. 
As part of the Discovery organization in R&D we bridge academic research with new product development by improving our in-depth understanding of bacterial physiology to guide strain screening & improvement efforts.
