Over the coming years, Novo Nordisk R&D will identify and execute on new strategic priorities, enabling the build-up of a more diverse, dynamic and scientifically leading pipeline of drug discovery and development projects and an R&D organisation equipped to develop these into innovative treatment options, for patients with significant unmet needs.

 

About the department

The R&D Strategy & Portfolio Management unit serves as an internal staff function collaborating across the R&D organisation to develop, refine and facilitate the execution of strategies to meet the R&D aspirations for Novo Nordisk.

The team is overall responsible for driving strategic initiatives across the R&D organisation and collaborate across the Novo Nordisk value chain to arrive at well-founded recommendations that ultimately impact the future of Novo Nordisk. 

The unit directly supports and reports to the top management in R&D and consists of a mix of experienced profiles with scientific, business and consultancy background as well as a mix of nationalities. We are a tight-knit unit which is characterised by an informal atmosphere with emphasis on having a fun and engaging working environment. While we are deeply dedicated to our tasks, we maintain focus on preserving a healthy work-life balance.

 

The position

You will report to the head of R&D Strategy and drive high-impact projects which influence the strategic direction of the R&D organisation. A large part of our deliverables are anchored at executive level and require the ability to collaborate and facilitate across professional disciplines, including R&D, Finance and the Commercial business units, providing both a high level of visibility, accountability and hands on interaction throughout the value chain. Thus, the position requires a deep understanding of the R&D value chain, combined with a strong and well-developed strategy tool-box and a willingness to drive projects individually and through cross-functional project teams.

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a balanced profile of scientific and business competencies combined with the ability to effectively communicate and work across the full value chain.

We encourage candidates with a variety of backgrounds to apply, but you are required to have a relevant high-level life-science education, solid experience with the pharmaceutical industry and a strong business acumen is a must. 

Your project management and strategy management skills are leading and you have proven experience in driving complex projects of a strategic nature. This experience can either come from your previous experience from a top-tier consultancy, from a business development position or similar relevant industrial experience.

Your presentation skills are second to none and you are capable of structuring material to allow efficient decision-making, while at the same time balancing the level of communication to ensure success of new initiatives. 

Finally, you have significant experience with complex matrix organisations and you are capable of independently driving an agenda.

As a person, you are ambitious, flexible and able to build trusting relationships at all levels.
