Then join the Local and OEM Categories team. We are 20 colleagues in a virtual, European team where each team member covers different local commodities (called categories in Grundfos). Our main purpose is to cover all local categories, and we have an ambition to reduce the number of suppliers and improve the business with the top performers or introduce new suppliers. Thus, we hold negotiation boost weeks where we select top suppliers and invite them for negotiation or launch category teardown projects. You refer to Purchase Manager on Local and OEM categories for EU, Fabrice Weisslinger. ”We enjoy a good atmosphere, where we know each other well which gives us a good collegial relationship. Once a month, we all meet virtually and every week, I check in with you via Skype. Now and then, we also meet face to face in sub-groups depending on the projects we are working on,” Fabrice explains. What is the job about? As our new Category Buyer, you are responsible for fulfilling the tasks linked to the strategic sourcing process and Supplier Relationship Management process. This entails addressing commercial issues during the validity period of agreements for a specific local category and a portfolio of local suppliers. Thus, you are responsible for the suppliers, the agreements, the portfolio and the total cost of the agreements (MPI, part price, logistics cost etc.). An important part of your job is also to manage the supplier relationship for local suppliers in close cooperation with the local unit and Purchase management. As such, you are in regular contact and follow-up with the suppliers related to performance against target and agreed supplier development activities. Your job takes you travelling approximately 40 days a year. “You are responsible for all the up-front processes of negotiation and contract signing as for the relationship after the supplier and parts have been approved. So it is your challenge to select the right future suppliers as well as carry out supplier tale reduction. It is up to you to decide which suppliers perform the best and which we need to part ways with, so you get to work strategically in terms of the supplier portfolio,” Fabrice says. What do you need to apply? You have an education within Business and some years of experience with purchasing as a Category Manager, Strategic Buyer or Purchaser combined with experienced in strategy creation and strategic sourcing processes. This enables you to perform negotiations independently as well as optimise the portfolio at a strategic level. A technical background is a definite plus, as you will be looking at technical drawings and negotiating both price and cost level with suppliers. You are fluent in both written and spoken English. “On a personal level, you are strong in building relationships and making decisions. You are outgoing, a good communicator at all levels, and you thrive travelling to different locations to meet with local suppliers and OEM suppliers. Finally, you possess solid analytical skills,” Fabrice finishes.
