The Mitigation Analysis and Data Management (MA&DM) Section in the UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP), invites applicants for the position as Climate Change technical advisor (TAP position) with a focus on energy, AFOLU and waste sectors.

The UDP is a leading international research and advisory institution on energy, climate and sustainable development. It is an independent centre in the Department for Management at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

As a UN Environment (UNEP) Collaborating Centre, UDP is an active participant in both the planning and implementation of UN Environment's programme of work on Climate Change. Through in-depth research, policy analysis, and capacity building activities, the Partnership assists developing countries in a transition towards more low carbon development paths, and supports integration of climate resilience in national development.

Main responsibilities and tasks

The successful applicant will play a key role within the MA&DM Section, working with a high degree of independence and responsibility. The main tasks will include conceptualising, planning, budgeting and coordinating the implementation of projects, as well as supporting analytical and technical work under these projects especially within the fields of energy, AFOLU and waste sectors.

The successful candidate will part of the secretariat for the preparation of the annual UN Environment Emissions Gap Report, which is UN Environment's flagship report on climate change mitigation. Key tasks and responsibilities include: organise conference calls and meetings, prepare contracts and payments, organise external reviews and collate review comments, support chapter development, prepare introductory parts of the report, support production process including being the focal point for the design and layout of the report, and support the outreach of the report, including the global launch and side events during the UNFCCC COP meetings.

Additional tasks beyond the Gap work include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage/coordinate international climate change projects, with focus in developing countries, in particular for the LAC region.
• Generate new ideas, encourage innovative approaches and knowledge services to address climate change mitigation challenges in a developing country context.
• Initiate, contribute to and/or lead resource mobilisation activities, including project concept development and preparation of project proposals.
• Support and ensure the technical rigor of complex analytical and advisory services, with a focus on mitigation especially for energy, AFOLU and/or waste sectors (i.a. technology assessment, sectoral mitigation analysis, policy analysis, impact assessment)
• Contribute to the work done at UDP on transparency and nationally determined contributions (NDC).
• Strengthen the integration of the gender perspective in the projects.
• Nurture and maintain networks and partnerships with national partners, international partner agencies and collaborators to ensure effective coordination and synergies.

Selection Criteria

We are looking for a versatile and motivated team player, who possesses strong knowledge and expertise in the climate change and sustainable development area and who fully meets the following criteria:Master degree in Engineering and/or Economics in an area relevant to climate change mitigation.

• Master degree in Engineering and/or Economics in an area relevant to climate change mitigation.
• A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in an international context with focus on sustainable development and climate change mitigation.
• Demonstrated excellent writing, communication and presentation skills in English and preferable fluency in Spanish.
• Proven knowledge of the scientific and international climate change policy context, including the IPCC and UNFCCC, in particular in relation to transparency and mitigation topics.
• Proven knowledge of the scientific and international context related to SDGs.
• Proven experience in management of mitigation projects.
• A track record of teamwork and ability to produce high-quality results and outputs under pressure with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills and ability to inspire and mentor less experienced colleagues.
• Demonstrated ability in fundraising and resource mobilisation with international donors.
• Initiation and implementation of new projects in co-operation with development aid donor agencies, international experts, and developing country institutions and experts.
• Work experience with the public sector is an advantage as well as experience working with UN agencies.
• Demonstrated experience with in-country capacity building activities, in particular in Latin America & Caribbean.
• Ability to work in multicultural environment.

Salary and terms of employment

UDP is part of the Department of Technology, Management, & Economics at the Technical University of Denmark and employees are university staff. The successful candidate will be employed in a full-time position according to the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. Individual supplement reflecting the responsibility of the position will be negotiated.
