Design student for development of Food Computer (student worker)

DTU Skylab is looking for an engineering student with experience in product design and making prototypes. Skylab is a pulsating environment for entrepreneurship amongst students and has activities such as workshops for prototyping and coaching of student entrepreneurs.

We are looking for a student to work on the project 'Ha(c)k dit grønt' during 2019. The purpose of 'Ha(c)k dit grønt' is to enhance the knowledge of healthy food and eating habits amongst Danish pupils by developing, testing and evaluating a technological learning space that brings the journey from farm to fork into the classroom. This will be achieved by making a food computer, which is close to a small greenhouse, but with controlled and automated environment. The job will be to design and build a product that can accommodate plant growth, be safe for pupils and withstand a classroom environment. The product will include grow light, cameras, pumps and sensors to control and monitor growth. You will be part of a team of three students to carry out the work. The student we are seeking enjoy working in teams and likes to do practical work.

Your responsibilities:

• Translation of user needs into a robust and safe product
• Building prototypes by using our inhouse workshops
• Documentation of prototypes by using CAD-tools

Required skills:

• Be able to translate user needs into product design
• Be able to document the product with CAD-tools
• Experience in bringing a product from concept phase to prototype
• Hands on experience in making prototypes

Preferred skills:

• Experience with rendering of 3D models
• Basic knowledge of material science
• Have done hobby projects before

Salary and terms of employment

You will be employed as a student assistant according to the SUL Collective agreement. The position is for 15 hours per week until through 2019 at DTU Skylab in Kongens Lyngby, but we are flexible in exam periods.
