DTU Aqua (the National Institute of Aquatic Resources at the Technical University of Denmark) invites applications for a Senior Executive Consultant in the area of Life science cooperation and innovation. The position is time limited for one years with workplace at DTU, Kgs. Lyngby.

DTU Aqua provides research, advice and education at the highest international level within the sustainable exploitation of living marine and freshwater resources, the biology of aquatic organisms and the dynamics of ecosystems as well as their integration in ecosystem-based management. DTU Aqua has 350 employees, of whom a third are scientific staff. The other employees are assistant biologists, laboratory technicians, administrative staff, ship's crew, student assistants etc. The institute is organised into eight scientific sections, which carry out the research, educational, advisory and innovation activities. In addition, the institute has a number of scientific and administrative support functions, including the research vessels. DTU Aqua has at present employees in Lyngby, Hirtshals, Nykøbing Mors and Silkeborg.

Responsibilities and tasks
The duties of the Senior Executive Consultant will primarily focus on

• mapping emerging university activities in Life science, considering interlinked programmes in aquatic and maritime sciences,
• identifying related research and innovation needs of the industry also in the value chain and with respect to sustainable circular economy,
• outlining and pursuing new areas of interest for DTU Aqua,
• intensify and expand activities in these areas in cooperation with other DTU units and industry.

Apart from matchmaking between relevant research areas and groups, an important task is to initiate and plan externally funded cooperation projects utilising identified synergies in research and innovation capabilities. This requires cooperation and strategic work with funding organisation, with respect to both programming and work programme formulation as well as the leadership of the institute.

Qualifications
The candidate must have a relevant higher education in natural sciences or as an engineer and in-depth knowledge of Life science of relevance to the institute. The candidate should have experience working in aquatic and/or life science industries, preferably in both SME and large corporation settings. Experience from company start-up is an asset. The candidate should also have experience working in the cross road of research and innovation, being able to develop new strategies and concepts to enhance sustainability and productivity of the sectors and reduce environmental footprint. The ability to synthesise complex scientific information and to motivate scientists and industry participants to join forces in common projects is central in the position. A good overview on research and innovation funding organisations including expectations and instruments utilised is an advantage. The candidate is expected to be independent, flexible, self-motivated, communicative and able to contribute to strategic decisions made by the institute and pursue strategies in concrete research and innovation projects and programmes on different time and spatial scales.

Assessment
In the assessment of candidates, particular consideration will be given to:

• Innovation activities, including work experience from and collaboration with industry
• Visions within the research and innovation area
• Experience in acquiring external funding
• Knowledge of stakeholders within the aquaculture, fisheries and seafood sector
• Knowledge about Danish and European research and innovation policies as well as programming and funding within the department's field
• Targeted communication and concrete experience in communicating knowledge to various university levels and industrial partners
• Analytical sense and working independently, structured and goal-oriented
• Good collaboration and administrative skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The working hours is expected to be approximately 27.75 per week.
