The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (DHRTC), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applicants for the position as Senior Research Scientist in Drilling Technology in offshore oil and gas applications. About the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre DHRTC (also called Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU) is established by the Danish Underground Consortium and DTU. The centre has received a starting grant of DKK 1 billion for a 10-year period and relies on close interaction between Academia and industry. As part of the National Strategy on Oil and Gas, the research centre is an ambitious, targeted effort to enable increased recovery of oil and gas from the Danish North Sea. The goal will be achieved by cooperation with the industry and other research institutions to further progress knowledge and solutions with application potential, and by contributing to research-based teaching programs. A clear objective of the DHRTC is to identify and create confidence in ideas that can radically improve recovery from the Danish North Sea. It is believed that such ideas are typically cross-disciplinary in nature and that the ideas are typically created in a dialogue where insight in existing fields and technologies meets knowledge of new technologies. The Centre is now seeking a high profile Senior Research Scientist who has the ambition and expertise to contribute in shaping the Centre. Responsibilities and tasks The Senior Research Scientist will together with the Head of Drilling & Production Technology define, initiate and conduct drilling technology focused research projects. These projects will be related to recovery of bypassed hydrocarbons, drilling in depleted reservoirs, marginal field development, well integrity, well life and well abandonment. The research activities should be relevant both for current development schemes and for design of radically new concepts for exploiting chalk and sandstone fields. The Senior Research Scientist is expected to pursue research projects with a line-of-sight to application by engaging with external parties and with colleagues across the Centre. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for the daily supervision of work within the centre at DTU and the coordination of activities undertaken by the research partners. The combination of experimental, theoretical, and simulation activities is crucial. The Senior Research Scientist will supervise PhD students, postdocs, and technical personnel. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc. Candidates should have wide experience with drilling technology related to offshore chalk and sandstone field developments. The position also requires that the Senior Research Scientist master to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary research centre. Experience with collaboration between academic research environments and the industry is desirable.
