If you are an ambitious researcher interested in applied systems biology and mathematical modelling of mammalian cell cultures, you could be our new colleague in the Cell Culture Technology Department at Novo Nordisk. About the department The Cell Culture Technology department is placed within the Biopharm Research Unit of Novo Nordisk. The department’s main focus areas are knowledge-based design, optimization and application of mammalian cell culture processes to support the design and development of innovative biotherapeutics at Novo Nordisk. We work in close collaboration with our colleagues in cell line development and provide qualified feedback for clone selection and strategies for rational cell line engineering. We develop CMC-friendly manufacturing processes and medium formulations to ensure a smooth transfer of projects from research to development. The job You will be mainly working on developing a genome-scale metabolic model of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells, which should be used for improved mining of information derived from multi-omics data analysis. The scope of your project is to broaden the in-depth understanding of CHO cell physiology when the cells are used as production hosts for complex and difficult-to-express pharmaceutical proteins. Your main research area will be in silico description of CHO cell metabolism as well as generation and analysis of genomics data. You will be working in close collaboration with molecular biologists and bioprocess engineers, who will support you with the testing and validation of the in silico derived predictions of cell and process engineering targets in laboratory experiments. You will also be collaborating with academic institutions and medium vendors in US and Europe in defined milestones of your project. Qualifications You have a research background and track record in reconstruction of genome-scale metabolic models and network/pathway-driven analysis of genomics data, broad computational experience in mathematical (constraint-based) modelling, analysis of multi-omics data, e.g. transcriptome and metabolome analysis, and knowledge on mammalian physiology. We expect you to have a PhD degree in engineering, bioinformatics and/or biology, or a similar field. Ideally, you have experience in developing bio-computational tools using Python, Matlab, or similar. On a personal level, you are flexible, collaborative, and you thrive in a dynamic research environment. You enjoy working independently and have excellent communication skills. You will be working with a cross-disciplinary team, so a holistic mindset, high personal commitment and ambitions for an industrial career will be desirable. Employment conditions The position is offered as part of the Novo Nordisk R&D STAR Programme (Science, Talent, Attraction and Recruitment).
