Two PhD scholarships in Nanochemistry and Nanomedicine Development for Brain Disease Treatment

Two PhD scholarships are available within synthetic chemistry in relation to research in new biomaterials with focus on synthesis of molecules that will be used as components in advanced drug delivery systems. The project is part of a collaboration between the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen University, Aarhus University and Aalborg University. The focus is on development of new drug delivery systems for treating diseases in the brain. Responsibilities and tasks The PhD projects involve the synthesis of novel lipidic or polymeric nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery to the brain for the treatment of brain cancers. The projects will involve the use of organic chemistry techniques and bioconjugations for the development of either lipidic or polymeric building blocks to be used for the nanoengineering of therapeutic programmable brain disease targeted nanomedicines. Additionally, the projects will also involve a range of chemistry characterization techniques, in addition to nanoparticle biophysicochemical characterization techniques. The PhD student will be a part of the Colloids and Biological Interface group at the Department of Micro and Nanotechnology. Qualifications The ideal applicant should hold a Master of Science in synthetic organic chemistry or, alternatively, polymer chemistry and have a strong interest in working experimentally in a cross-disciplinary environment. Strong communication skills and a strong academic record is an advantage. The applicant should strive towards developing scientific skills at the highest level, be ambitious and hard working.
