DTU Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Associate/Assistant Professor in Maritime Technology. DTU Mechanical Engineering is contributing to research, innovation and education within the following scientific areas: Structural and solid mechanics, fluid and hydrodynamics, applied thermodynamics, manufacturing technology, engineering design and product development, materials- and surface engineering. The staff consists of approximately 300 persons including a faculty of 55. The associate/assistant professor will be affiliated to the Maritime group in the Section for Fluid Mechanics, Coastal and Maritime Engineering (FVM) which is one out of six sections in the department employing 38 persons including presently a faculty of 11. Responsibililties and tasks We seek a dynamic new faculty member who will complement and enhance the existing strengths of the FVM Section with regard to both research and teaching in the maritime field. The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to teaching in the following areas: •Principles of Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering •Ship Design •Structural Assessment of Ships •Wave Loads on Ships and Offshore Structures The maritime group applies scientific knowledge to improving the design and performance of ships and other floating marine structures. Candidates for this position should have demonstrated research qualifications within one or more of the following engineering areas: •Numerical methods for predicting wave induced loading and response of floating structures •Experimental methods for investigating wave loading and response of floating structures •Risk-based design procedures for strength and safety of marine structures •Advanced ship propulsion systems Other university-wide expectations include: •Associate Professors – Exchanging knowledge with society, including participation in the public debate, research management, guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers, and some academic assessment work. •Assistant Professors – Exchanging knowledge with society, as well as other assignments to a limited extent •Collaboration with other research groups at DTU and internationally Qualifications Candidates for an •Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) •Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training. The selected candidate is expected to have or to be able to develop a personal research profile, which is aligned with the general research in the Maritime Group in the FVM-section.
