The National Food Institute (DTU Food) seeks qualified candidates for an associate professor to work in the area of microbial food safety and antimicrobial resistance. The candidate will be affiliated with the Microbial Food Safety Research Group, which study transmission of food borne pathogenic microorganisms in the food processing chain with a specific focus on consumer exposure and consumer risk. The group works with different food and infection models systems and spans expertise in growth modelling and antibiotic resistance. A tight collaboration to risk modelling expertise is ongoing. The candidate will be part of the faculty at the institute and will participate in development and coordination of teaching at the institute and specifically be involved in teaching in molecular and food microbiology. Responsibilities and tasks With the aim to strengthen research on the impact of meat processing on consumer exposure to antibiotic resistance, the successful candidate will integrate closely with group members with activities on transmission of antibiotic resistance in the meat processing chain. The candidate will be part of developing quantification methods to determine the resistance gene pools in meat and to study the transfer of resistance genes among the bacterial background flora in meat. The candidate will also to some extend take part in developing food model and infection models systems in the group. The exact task will depend on the qualifications of the successful candidate, but are expected to involve: •Project management and collaboration with the National Veterinary and Food Administration on shared projects on antibiotic resistance in meat. •Designing and setting up / instruction in methods to be implemented in the food inspection laboratory. •Contribute to set up and maintenance of food model and infection models systems such as stomach acid model and cell culture systems. •Teaching at courses given by the National Food Institute and Involvement in supervision of students at all levels. Other content of the position •A candidate employed as associate professor is expected to exchange knowledge with society, including participation in the public debate, research management, guidance and supervision of assistant professors and researchers, academic assessment work, teaching at courses and some advice giving to authorities. •The candidate will be responsible for contributing to the research area including development of research ideas, applications and research networks •The candidate will take part in coordinating and teaching the course in Food microbiology for B. Eng. taught on the third semester on the education “Fødevareanalyse” at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Teaching will primarily be in Danish and for none native speakers acquisition of appropriate Danish skills will be necessary within a period of 2-3 years. •Depending on the qualifications of the applicant the candidate may be considered as contact person on the Technical University of Denmark for the B. Sc. education “Fødevarer og Ernæring” taught at Copenhagen University and will be participating in coordinating meetings on education between DTU and Copenhagen University. •Collaboration with other research groups/departments at DTU is also expected.
