We are offering a PhD scholarship in Neuroimmunology/neuroinflammation commencing.

Our group and research
Our group is focusing on understanding the molecular basis for neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration and the immunity of aging diseases. To address these tasks we are utilizing in vivo techniques in gene-modified mice, and/ or in vivo / intrathecal injections to create gene-edited mice. Furthermore we utilize several cellular neuroscience, molecular biology and behavioural sciences to address the scientific questions.

Project abstractJV_description
To identify immune genes regulating and / or impacting the neurodegenerative processes. Characterization of the molecular mechanisms by which immune genes could impact protection against neurodegeneration.

Job abstractJV_description
Your key tasks as a PhD student at SUND are:

• Carry through an independent research project under supervision
• Complete PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approx. 30 ECTS points
• Write a PhD thesis on the grounds of your project

Key criteria for the assessment of candidates

• Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree closely related to the subject area of the project, neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
• The candidate should have successful experience with design and utilization of CRISPR/Cas9 and other gene-editing techniques both in vitro and in vivo.
• Documented experience with behavioral neuroscience in rodents. CNS histopathology using immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence staining and confocal microscopy.
• Experience with electron microscopy is desirable. Additionally the candidate should have familiarity with mitochondrial and auto/mitophagy techniques.
• Experience with mass spectrometry and handling of big data sets performing bioinformatics is highly meriting.
• High proficiency in English is an absolute requirement.

The place of employment is at Neuroinflammation Unit, BRIC, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment and employment
The employment as PhD fellow is a full time for 3 years. Starting date is 1 March 2019 or soon thereafter
The appointment as a PhD fellow is for 3 years. It is conditioned upon the candidate’s success­ful enrolment in the PhD school at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the candidate.

The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the University’s rules on achieving the degree. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agree­ment between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins around 26.886 DKK /approx. 3.601 EUR (October 2018-level) plus pension.

The further process
