DTU Space invites applications for a 2-year postdoc position in satellite altimetry, focusing on high latitude Sea Level determination within the Department of Geodesy at the National Space Institute of Denmark (DTU Space). The Geodetic Department at DTU space has a long-term international involvement in satellite altimetry and the project is financed through international research projects. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate is expected to participate in international research project representing the DTU Space involvement in these and to leverage the candidates own international research in the field through publication in international journals and participation at international conferences. The research will mainly be within the field of improved sea level determination primarily focusing on high latitude regions. Sea level is essential for climate change studies as well as for ship traffic and human safety. Accurate sea level observations using radar measurements from space have been available by satellite altimetry for more than two decade but in high latitude regions the quality of the altimetric observations degrades due to a high number of complex echoes and missing echoes. Methods to handle complex echoes through retracking and combination of multiple retrackers to improve the spatio-temporal coverage of satellite altimetry will be a focus point in the research. A starting point will be the DTU space existing retracker system. An expected outcome of this research project is the creation of a 25 years improved high latitude altimetric sea-level product for climate research. The research will potentially involve some teaching as well and handling other assignments to a limited extend. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Prior experience with the use of satellite altimetry for sea level determination on the technical level is important along with experience with processing of satellite altimetry and waveform retracking.
