- Research Scientist - Denmark - Måløv We are looking for a creative technology driven scientist with solid experience in recombinant protein expression, purification and characterization to join a dynamic young team in the early research branch of Novo Nordisk A/S Global Research Unit. The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term micro-vascular complications of diabetes. The Global Research Unit consists of app. 1.500 highly qualified Scientists, PhDs/Post Docs and Lab Technicians and we conduct our world class research from sites based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Beijing and Seattle. About the department The Protein Science department currently counts 16 scientists, 19 technicians and one Ph.D. student. The department belongs to the Protein Engineering area which is part of the Global Research organization. Protein Science is divided into three teams devoted to analysis method development, Mass Spectrometry characterization and recombinant protein production. The Protein Test Machine team utilize high throughput methodology to screen for expression of recombinant proteins in state of the art expression hosts with the aim of purifying high quality recombinant proteins for delivery to our stakeholders who undertake the biological evaluation of activity within disease areas relevant to Novo Nordisk A/S. The job The Protein Test Machine supports the early research organization with recombinant new biological entities. As a scientist in the team you will take part in the molecular design phase and task of exploring expression hosts suited for the production of a desired protein. You will use your vast experience with column chromatography to purify proteins and guide our laboratory technicians in the procedures required to obtain high quality preparations and document the quality through the analytical methods that you employ in the characterization. Further, you will take active part in presenting the teams results in biological focus groups and thereby promote the generation of new exciting projects that potentially lead to tomorrow’s medicines. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our work flows and methods to ensure that we deliver high quality results at a high pace. Qualifications As a successful candidate for the position you are expected to have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Protein Chemistry, biochemical engineering or a similar relevant biological science area with a minimum of 4 years Post. Doc. or industrial experience. You will have extensive hands on experience with column chromatography on AKTA purification systems for milligram to gram scale purifications using conventional and affinity based chromatography methods. Solid experience with protein expression of disulphide containing proteins in E. coli or other expression systems is a prerequisite, preferably using bioreactors. You should be well versed in the use of LC-MS of intact proteins and peptide mass mapping both with regard to instrument operation and data analysis. It is pivotal for your success in the position to demonstrate flair for- and interest in new technology and have an innovative mind-set. Experience with patent filings or alike is favourable. You should have an outreaching personality with strong interpersonal networking capabilities. In previous positions you have worked independently with one or more technicians as direct referrals and you should be able to communicate complex scientific procedures with technical proficiency both orally and in writing.
