Wind Capture & T&H > Rotor Engineering > Hub

The Hub Engineering department is responsible for providing technologies, competences, components and system solutions in the areas of blade pitching, Hub design and service. The international team, located both in Denmark and Porto, is still expanding to meet the demands of a vastly growing challenging business.

Responsibilities

As a Structural Engineer your main focus will be to:

  • Design load carrying components as well as bolted or welded connections
  • Work in close cooperation with other structural engineers of the department to find the correct solutions and meet the deliverables*
    • Deliverables are optimized structures, including documentation according to the Vestas Way to Market process and certification
  • Defining and participating in test and validation of systems
  • Contribute to the development of the supply chain in close cooperation with Global procurement
  • Drive VA/VE activities to optimize product cost to required performances
  • Participate in estimating component life time

Main Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Identify requirements of structural components
  • Define interfaces to the other system
  • Establish test protocols based on expected operation
  • Influence and drive reliability-centered design decisions based on data
  • Deploy solutions into specific turbine developments
  • Act as sub-system owner towards a specific turbine range i.e. evaluate change needs and proposals due to performance, cost or quality

Qualifications

  • M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering in the related field of structural engineering
  • Preferably 2-5 years' experience with a larger organization dealing with complex products
  • Experience with simulation and calculation of mechanical systems including:
    • Load analysis and application
    • Extreme and fatigue analysis
    • Design for manufacturing
    • Bolted and welded joints
    • Contact settings
  • Has experience supply chain development in cooperation with Sourcing and Quality
  • Experience in ERP System (examples: Mapics, ECM, SAP) will be an advantage
  • Project management experience will be an advantage

Competencies

  • Sound understanding of fundamental machine components
  • Data evaluation expertise
  • Enthusiastic about practical work on tests and verification as well as theoretical knowledge
  • Advanced level in English both in speaking and in writing
  • Good communication skills
  • A team player mindset but still with the ability to lead and present his/her opinions
  • Enthusiastic, engaged and willing to go the extra mile
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma-DMAIC/DfSS will be an advantage
