Associate/Assistant Professor in Railway Technology - RailTech DTU

In cooperation with the National Railway industry DTU has established a Centre for Railway Technologies, RailTech DTU. The purpose of the Centre is to strengthen DTU's efforts in relation to the railway sector's many and complex technological challenges. This new "Centre without walls" has its base at DTU’s Department of Transport and works across DTU disciplines in close cooperation with a large group of professionals at several DTU departments which are affiliated to the Centre. The Centre will serve as single point of entry for the industry and facilitate the various stakeholders' access to education, research, innovation and research-based consultancy across departments at DTU in the subject areas that are relevant for the rail industry. Education Railtech DTU is responsible for developing existing and creating new attractive rail-oriented training units and subject areas across DTU's departments and disciplines by providing coordination and enhancing an interdisciplinary approach to rail-relevant issues. Furthermore the Centre has the objective to create greater perceptibility of the railway sector among DTU’s study environment, i.e. by a targeted profiling of the industry among students through the provision of rail-technical cases for diploma and undergraduate projects, special courses and master theses. Moreover, Railtech DTU is responsible for cultivating and developing partnerships with international universities with respect to exchanging graduate and doctoral students and teachers. Research Railtech DTU has the task to initiate and support railway relevant research collaborations across DTU with a view to ensure a long-term basis for a railway-relevant technical research. In order to create and maintain interest in rail technology and attract professionally strong and ambitious researchers and talented students, the Centre has the task to raise funding for relevant research projects, including the strengthening of PhD training, in cooperation with the rail industry. Research-based consultancy DTU provides research-based consultancy on a wide range of subject areas and topics relevant to the rail industry, including infrastructure, transport policy & planning, risk assessment, safety & traffic rules, rolling stock, etc. Railtech DTU operates a contact forum where transport authorities and organizations discuss specific demands for advice and project collaboration, which subsequently are channeled to the relevant DTU departments and disciplines. Other cooperation In addition to its function as a single point of contact Railtech DTU has also the task to initiate, organize and support information exchange with industry representatives in the form of i.e. open house events, seminars, workshops, etc. The Centre will also coordinate both national and international technological knowledge dissemination activities for the rail industry and provide a platform for strategic partnerships in relation to long-term projects with research content, thereby enhancing the opportunities for being represented in European research and development initiatives. Responsibilities and tasks The associate/assistant professor is expected to carry out research in railway technology at a high international level, and to develop this research in cooperation with other researchers at DTU. It is expected that the associate/assistant professor is active in promoting projects and fund-raising, and manage (or co-manage) research projects, as well as research-based consultancy work in close cooperation with the sector.
