The Head of Software Engineering is a dynamic and pivotal technology leadership role and the successful candidate will serve as a strategic leader and subject matter expert for software engineering. The Head will provide thought leadership, execution oversight and managing the software engineering team’s strategic vision and lead the effort in achieving operational excellence. The position we offer In this role, you will be responsible for securing efficiency in the design, development and implementation processes in software development initiatives. You will be accountable for teams with +200 employees and more than 200 on-shore and off-shore contractors. The candidate will have a proven ability to provide leadership in an onsite / offshore managed services delivery model in a fast paced environment, and secure: •Efficiency and productivity in software engineering teams •Efficient and effective capacity management •High quality competence development for teams and individuals •Effective collaboration with leaders of the software development activities The head of Software Engineering will report to the head of Solutions & IT and be part of the management team. Key Responsibilities: •Recruit, staff, mentor, maintain, grow and lead a best-of-class engineering team. •Support architectural principles in building solutions that will be easy to maintain and enhance over time. •Evolve an agile delivery model that builds on a collaborative, open and rapid interaction between stakeholders and technology execution •Work closely with engineers and architects and develop the best technical design and approach based on the latest technologies and design patterns. Be a hands-on technical leader. •Identify and realise synergies across the development portfolio and development/operations processes •Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through open and effective communication. •Effectively communicate complex technology subject matter and potential usage possibilities to senior management, enterprise architecture and engineering teams. •Budget management, planning, forecasting, including headcount. Manage vendor, outsourcer, consultant contracts and service agreements The qualifications you need Successful candidates will have the following attributes: •Strong engineering and technology background with the ability to go deep into technology solutions and a deep technical credibility with engineering organizations, able to recruit top engineers •Flexible, resourceful, figure-it-out-and-get-it-done mentality •Structured, to-the-point, precise and outspoken – argue with data; An excellent listener and proven collaborator with superiors, peers and staff •Consistently attain/exceed individual and team goals, takes smart risks and aggressively lead through change •Ability to manage financial responsibilities associated with the ownership of a large delivery team Qualifications: •Proof of information technology leadership experience; leading and managing technical development teams and experienced in growing high performing engineering teams •Experience with Agile- and Test-Driven Development with distributed development teams including managed services. •Proven ability to successfully work and operate in complex environments, with many stakeholders and a high degree of portfolio complexity; Able to build strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels including executive managers, partners and vendors, •Strong, proven problem solving skills and ability to identify, analyse and resolve problems, driving solutions through to completion with the ability to exercise mature judgment. •Proven skills in Capacity & Performance Management •Highly creative and innovative with an eye for detail; Curious and forward looking with in-depth understanding of technology trends and with the ability to question and challenge where necessary to change th
