- Research & Development - Denmark - Måløv The Department of Modelling and Structural biology is seeking an experienced scientist for structure-guided protein optimization and design. About the department The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes. The Global Research Unit consists of app. 1.500 highly qualified Scientists, PhDs/PostDocs and Lab Technicians and we conduct our world class research from sites based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Beijing and Seattle. The department of Modelling and Structural biology provides structure based design of therapeutic proteins and peptides with improved pharmacological and formulation properties for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. We are 15 enthusiastic individuals located in Måløv, Denmark, with expertise within protein modelling, X-ray crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering and protein chemistry. The job As a key member of discovery research project teams you will proactively utilize, communicate and leverage biostructural information to guide the design of biopharmaceutical molecules within a multi-dimensional chemical and formulation space. You will provide protein homology models and perform advanced data mining and analysis. You will apply computational chemistry to interpretation of experimental data such as biological data, NMR and SAXS with the ultimate goal of designing compounds which improve upon biological and pharmacological properties. In collaboration with IT professionals you will also contribute to administration and maintenance of our linux cluster. Qualifications You hold a PhD in Computational Chemistry, modelling, Biophysics or a related discipline and preferentially have post-doctoral experience. Previous experience from pharmaceutical or biotechnological industry is an advantage. You have expert knowledge of computational aspects of 3D molecular structure and design, possibly coupled with hands-on experience in SAXS or NMR. You have a sound knowledge of Linux environment and practical experience in one or more scripting and/or programming language such as Python, Perl, C, C++, etc. Relevant expertise within protein homology modelling, bioinformatics, advanced large scale data analysis techniques or protein-protein docking is expected, as is familiarity with commercial molecular modelling and data-mining software packages. You are enthusiastic about driving discoveries and have demonstrated scientific excellence by publication in peer reviewed journals. You are skilled in extracting information and articulating clear and convincing hypotheses. You are fluent in English and excel in sharing results with scientist of different disciplines.
